Since I was a child, my love for the outdoors has been a very important part of my life. Growing up, I spent a large portion of my time exploring the nearby areas. Up and down the hills in my backyard, and climbing up the many mountains of Vermont. This created a very profound connection between myself and the environment. I spent nearly everyday in my yard, kicking a ball about, training, and enjoying myself. It was where I felt most comfortable, and I enjoyed every minute spent there. The time spent in my yard have had a lasting impact on me, it allowed me to find peace and feel connected to something bigger than myself—the great world of nature.
Playing soccer has allowed me to stay connected to the outdoors. It is the only thing keeping me from staying inside, rotting in my bed while using my phone. From the well maintained fields locally, to the more rugged and natural pitches, soccer has kept me rooted in nature. The spaces I have played in have become places of refuge, a place where I can calm my mind—keeping me connected with nature. My experiences both here, and many places around the world have strengthened my state of mind and deepened my appreciation for the beauty and tranquility of nature.
To conclude, my connection to the land and environment is deeply personal. Childhood explorations, and my experiences playing soccer have merged to create a great appreciation for nature. This has shaped who I am and shown the importance of preserving our natural world. Without access to nature, will children of future generations be able to find a way to stay connected to it? We must protect these environments. From tiny soccer fields to large forest areas, they are all the same. By doing so, we can make sure that the people of the future will be able to experience the same wonder and connection that has been so important to me in my life. The things learned, and peace found here in nature have allowed me to appreciate its true beauty, and the impact of it in all of our lives.
