Educational Philosophy
Philosophy of Learning
The California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTP) are intended to provide a vision of the scope and complexity of the profession by which all teachers can define and develop their practice. The standards serve and support professional educators in fulfilling their professional roles and responsibilities; it is a guide as teachers develop, refine, and extend their practice. As a practiced educator, I continually use the CSTPs to:
- prompt reflection about student learning and teaching practice;
- formulate professional goals to improve teaching practice in support of student learning; and
- guide, monitor, and assess the progress of my practice toward professional goals.
Through three foundational philosophies, I maintain the six standards to
- Engage and Support All Students in Learning
- Create and Maintain Effective Environments for Student Learning
- Understand and Organize Subject Matter for Student Learning
- Plan Instruction and Design Learning Experiences for All Students
- Assess Students for Learning, and
- Develop as a Professional Educator
Philosophy of Leadership
The California Professional Standards for Educational Leaders are intended to provide a vision of the scope and complexity of the profession by which all education leaders can define and develop their practice. The standards serve and support professional educational leaders in fulfilling their professional roles and responsibilities; it is a guide as administrators develop, refine, and extend their practice. As a practiced education leader, I continually use the CPSELs to promote the success of all colleagues and students by:
- facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community;
- advocating, nurturing, and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth;
- ensuring management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment;
- collaborating with our stakeholders, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing resources;
- modeling a personal code of ethics and developing professional leadership capacity; and
- understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context.
Philosophy of Service
The Holy Bible (Basic Instructions for Believers Leaving Earth) is intended to provide a foundation by which all persons can define and develop their being. The Bible serves and supports us in fulfilling our professional roles and responsibilities; it is a guide for development and refinement. As a woman after God's own heart (Acts 13:22), I continually use the Word of God to fulfill "the whole duty of man" (Eccl 12:13).
ISTE Admin Alignment
The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has identified and described five standards "for evaluating the skills and knowledge school administrators and leaders need to support digital age learning, implement technology and transform the education landscape." I've used these standards as the basis for a reflection on my work. In my reflection, I considered the following questions:
- Which ISTE Standards for Administrators correspond to your areas of strengths and needs?
- How have you changed as a learner and a leader through this process?
- What is your action plan for implementing change as a result of new learning?
- How do you plan to continue your learning about digital age learning?
