The problem is the persistent challenge of preventing falls among elderly individuals over the past five years, despite existing efforts, the rate of falls remains high. Effective strategies are needed to address this issue and reduce the incidence of falls.
Nursing Leadership Theory to Implement Interventions and Rationale
As for the theories that can help us to implement the intervention, we use Kurt Lewin’s change theory because as we know it is use three-stage. The first stage is unfreezing that ensures the readiness of the employee and the organization to make a change, next is the change, it is the implementation of the change that already agreed upon. Lastly the refreeze stage this stage ensures that the change will be permanent (Wagner, n.d.).
Rationale:
This theory can be used as it is an appropriate for the problem to be specific and easier to understand, it uses simple and clear illustration and concepts. This theory provides a structured approach to implementing change in fall prevention strategies. By using nurse leaders can facilitate effective change management and improve fall prevention outcomes (Udod, 2018).
A democratic leadership style is the best way to accomplish change for fall prevention, according to Kurt Lewin's theory of change. This approach promotes the nursing team's participation, collaboration, and engagement in the transformation process.
Rationale:
A participative leadership style emphasises team participation in fall prevention decision-making and problem-solving, which is aligned with the Kurt Lewin Change Theory. This leadership encourages teamwork, open dialogue, and a sense of shared responsibility.
As a leader in charge of implementing fall prevention solutions based on the Kurt Lewin Change Theory, I would follow a systematic approach to ensure successful implementation. I would thoroughly review Canadian guidelines, collaborate with other healthcare professionals, ensure compliance with regulations, evaluate interventions regularly, seek funding opportunities, establish partnerships, and stay updated through continuous learning.
The approach to implementing fall prevention interventions based on the Kurt Lewin Change Theory may involve three stages:
During the unfreezing stage, for the first month awareness needs to be create about the need for change and In the Changing stage, nursing team need to be engage for the decision making and conduct the comprehensive risk assessment that may take around three to four months. Lastly Refreezing, involving ongoing reinforcement and embedding of new practices, should be an ongoing process.
