MY TEACHIG PERSONA
As a young novice person who will be incoming into the teaching profession and environment i will need to establish an identity in the classroom and school environment, An identity which will help smooth my way into understanding and experiencing all there is to experience about teaching in the best way possible. As a versatile individual i know i have various personas and i will try to narrow them down to creating an identity that will best help me in developing and delivering inspiring hands on lessons that will capture a learners imagination and breed success.
As an individual it is a good thing that i will be responsible for the image i present to the learners and my fellow staff members. I am a teacher that embraces differences in individuals and i always aim to understand the differences and include every individual to be part of the every day lessons that occur in and outside the classroom environment, I am an advocate for inclusive education and that is backed up by my versatility and my ability to adapt in any environment. I currently uphold myself as a role model to learners and my peers and i make sure that i am always there to give guidance and shed light to all that look up to me.
I want to be the kind of teacher that is not seen as a source of information by my learners meaning that i will be a teacher that does not use much of the traditional way of teaching which is the lecturing method, I want to be a teacher that is just a bridge from the contents of the book to the learners, i will be a mediator of information and give clarity where its needed because i believe that allowing learners to create their own knowledge is important in enabling them to become critical thinkers. I will build a classroom environment that preaches equality and fair treatment and i will lead by example by treating each and every learner in my class the same no matter the difference in their academic achievements because i believe that we cannot judge an elephant by its ability to climb a tree compared to a monkey, So i am a teacher that understands that learners learn differently and it is my duty to acknowledge that and become a researcher to find ways to include different learning styles of learners in my lessons and to make sure that i deliver lessons in a way that ensures that effective teaching and learning takes place.
As an individual i grew up with principles of ubuntu and to this date i still live by those principles and since i have to be comfortable in the persona that i choose for myself i will create and identity for myself that reflects what i believe in, that will allow me to offer my true self to the learners and fellow staff members in general. I want to be the type of teacher that learners do not only see as just a teacher, i want them to see me as a parent ,a social worker ,a career advisor, as a guardian ,as a mentor and someone they could talk to when they need help and are going through anything that can affect their learning. I embrace the spirit and principles of ubuntu in class so as to encourage the learners to treat each other fairly and be there for each other in that way i know there is a lot they can achieve whilst working together. Lastly i will not be a teacher that is focused on academic performance of learners meaning their results to any tasks given ,i will be the teacher that focuses on understanding and application of knowledge learnt since i do not want to be a teacher that is stuck in the old days of outcome based learning.
