Critique Of Current Computer Laboratory Design In South African Schools
The following is the current design of most computer laboratories that are in our South African schools .From the layout on the first picture you can see that learners are facing each other and in such a set up some of the learners are unable to face the project and their screens at the same time and that results in certain distractions arising in class during lessons and also that makes it easy for fellow learners to talk to one another as one teaches and them missing out on some parts of the lesson and they can be able to copy from each other easily, most of the time it also does not give the teacher enough room to move around and be able to help one student on their desktop without disturbing another student and also creating a distraction by the sound of chairs being moved around.
The following is an image which shows the layout of a computer laboratory that may be the best design for the current school computer lab. A design in which the learners face the projector an d the teacher control desk is facing the learners is the one i can suggest as innovative and suitable for our school computer labs. This design is best as it allows all the learners to face one direction and that will create less distractions in terms of movements of the teacher and the learners copying or talking to one another during the lesson as it gives the teacher a chance to be able to view all the learners in the lab from one angel as the teacher will be seated in the front.
