Design to Assembly

Over-molded Intake Wheels

My goal was to design and assemble a wheel used for an intaking mechanism on a larger 125 lb robot. I designed this wheel to stay attached to the polyurethane while spinning at high speeds.

I designed the wheels to make sure the molded urethane and the printed wheel would stay together when spinning at high speeds. The macaroni-shaped tunnels were altered to be vertical so the resin would fill them in as it was poured and cure inside the printed wheel hub.

I used a two-part polyurethane resin. The tread was molded in a 3D printed cast

The wheels and their smaller versions were used to intake large boxes at high speeds.
