The Smart Mirror Project is an upcoming device that displays text through a mirror! Smart mirrors typically achieve this with two-way glass or acrylic with a computer screen behind that layer. There are examples on Instructables.com and elsewhere online, like the one to the right!
I aim to utilize some of the discarded electronics I have come across over the past few years to bring this to fruition. First, the computer that controls the mirror will be a somewhat aged laptop that doesn't have a working screen or keyboard. I ended up stripping it down of all unnecessary components and it ended up being perfect for this project!
The other major electronic component for this device is the screen itself. I managed to come across a free 40" TV on marketplace. After some tinkering, I figured out that the backlight was dead! The image to the right is a light (that I repaired) shining through the LCD panel of the TV while it displays a "No Image" box.
This backlight could be an easy replacement, or I could make a custom backlight that would be better suited for the Smart Mirror project. Although the TV backlight 72 volt power circuit still works, I will likely make this circuit separate from the TV circuits to keep the system simple and safer.
I look forward to having the time and funds to put this project together soon!
