Graduate Certificate in Data Networking

A DWU Graduate Certificate in Data Networking is designed to provide knowledge, skills and expertise in Data Networking following the four modules of the CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Cisco Academy program.

It is a two year program offered over four (4) semesters with the following units:

  • Semester 1: IS601 Introduction to Networking
  • Semester 2: IS602 Routing & Switching Protocols
  • Semester 3: IS603 Scaling Networks
  • Semester 4: IS604 Wide Area Networks

Each module will consist of 14 weeks guided online access to the DWU Course Management System (Moodle) and Cisco's Netacad portal. This will be followed by a one-week attendance on campus when there will be summary notes, practical exercises on an installed hardware network and a supervised final online exam.

A flexible way to obtain a qualification.

The course is fully facilitated by qualified instructors who collaborate closely with you and your colleagues during the process. Through your study, you may take part in a range of other activities including a combination of virtual classrooms (using Live Video sessions on Facebook, Zoom, or Moodle), text discussions, journals and blogs, social media, quizzes, Web quests, online and offline reading, study and project activities.

Entry requirements:

Applicants for the Graduate Certificate award need to possess a primary degree in the IT area with industrial experience. Others, with industrial experience, may enroll and receive the award of a Certificate in Data Networking.

Technical Requirements:

  • Reliable broadband internet access
  • Headset with speakers and microphone (for interactive Blackboard Collaborate sessions)
  • Computer with ability to edit Word Documents (.doc / .docx)
  • Computer with ability to view Adobe Portable Documents (pdf)
  • Access to a video recording device with the capability to transfer to a computer / YouTube (e.g. iPhone or similar smartphone, or traditional video camcorder)

    • K100 non-refundable Application Fee
    • Compulsory K3735.00 tuition per module
    • Textbook fee is not included in the tuition
    • K100 deferral fee if student is unable to attend the scheduled residential.
    • Fee covers meals and twin share accommodation per residential

Facilities

Divine Word University offers excellent modern residential, teaching and computer facilities in a beautiful, safe and peaceful environment. Accommodation is available at Madang Campus. In the one week boot camp, students will have access to networking hardware equipment for lab purposes.

Industry Certification:

Networking Academy students prepare to earn Cisco certifications, hallmarks of technical competence that are highly valued in the ICT industry around the world. Apart from the Graduate Certificate, this program also specifically aligns with CCENT and CCNA industry certification.

The academy gives you the opportunity to practice for the CCENT (ICND1) certification exam after you successfully complete CCNA1-2 and you can also practice the ICND2 exam as well after completing CCNA3-4.

Examinations

Authorized discounts (vouchers) are available to students who receive a score of 75% or higher on the FIRST attempt of the final exam in a qualifying course: CCNA Security, CCNA R&S Routing and Switching Essentials, and CCNA R&S Connecting Networks. The academy is currently in the process of establishing a Pearson Test Center as well to give the opportunity to students to sit for the industry certification at a discount cost.
