How do I know if my child has visited the nurse?
When a student visits the nurse, a note will go home detailing the reason for the visit and the treatment provided. If a child has an illness or injury that requires immediate parent contact, the school will call the parents.
When should my child stay home from school due to illness?
Students should stay home/will be sent home for a fever of 100 degrees or higher. They need to be fever free for 24 hours without medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen) before returning to school.
Students should stay home/will be sent home for vomiting and will need to be free of any vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school.
Students should stay home/will be sent home for pink eye symptoms. They may return to school 24 hours after treatment was initiated, or with a doctor’s note stating that the student is not contagious.
A student with Strep Throat should be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
What will the school do if my child has an injury?
Any student with an injury that requires modifications at school will require a note from a physician, including refraining from PE and recess.
Any student excused from PE due to an injury will not be able to participate in recess either.
Will my child be given medication at school?
If your child requires the administration of PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS:
You will need to provide a form signed by the ordering physician and the parent.
The medication must be brought to and from school by an adult-the student cannot deliver medication to the nurse.
If your child requires the administration of OVER THE COUNTER MEDICATIONS:
Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Tums, and cough drops are kept on hand at school, but in order for them to be given to a student, the school must have a signed authorization from a parent on file.
Any other over the counter medications need a special authorization form and must be brought to and from school by an adult.
We will ALWAYS try non-medication management of symptoms first: ice packs, food, water, or rest.
