GRADING PROCEDURES AT DVES
Dakota Valley Elementary School utilizes a Standards-Based Progress Report to notify parents of their child’s progress towards academic standard mastery.
The elementary school calendar is defined by trimesters, so parents will receive Progress Reports three times per year in November, February, and May. If there are academic or behavioral concerns prior to, or between reporting dates, teachers will be in contact with parents/guardians.
Dakota Valley Elementary utilizes four performance indicators to mark progress towards proficiency of a learning standard. These indicators each represent a different step in the learning process.
Needs support (N)
The student has not retained the content taught for this standard. Extra support is needed to reach current grade level expectation for this standard. (Example: 10 letters have been taught in the classroom. The student only identifies 5 of those letters.)
Beginning (B)
The student is retaining the content taught so far for this standard. (Example: 10 letters have been taught and the student only identifies those 10.)
Progressing (P)
The student is retaining the content covered so far in the classroom but has not met the end of the year goal for this standard. (Example: 10 letters have been covered in the classroom, the student identifies 15 out of 26. Progressing grade would be given).
Meets Grade Level standard (M) The student has consistently met the standard. (Example: The student identifies all 26 letters).
