People come together in different ways to promote quality of life in Durham and INC’s membership rules are intentionally flexible to accommodate this. (For more information about our structure and eligible organizations, see About Us and its menu of pages.)
Why join INC?
Working together across the city and county, we can have a more powerful impact than an neighborhood alone, We
Foster cooperation among existing neighborhood organizations.
Encourage the establishment of neighborhood organizations where none exist.
Take positions on issues that affect our member neighborhoods.
Collect and disseminate information to stimulate awareness and interest in issues.
Work cooperatively with the City and County of Durham, and makes sure the voice of the resident is heard via individual neighborhood organizations.
Hold monthly meetings and invite government officials and other community leaders to deliberate issues, educate neighbors and brainstorm solutions.
INC is governed by a Board of Delegates from its member organization. Each member organization may send two delegates to participate in INC board meetings, but each neighborhood only gets one vote. Delegates are expected to communicate with their constituent organizations before voting. INC has Officers elected annually by the members voting through their delegates.
Additionally, it is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse or contribute to candidates for political office.
