Thank you for your interest in INC. We are happy you are here.
Organized in 1984, the InterNeighborhood Council of Durham (INC) is an all-volunteer coalition of Durham’s neighborhoods and homeowner’s associations. Our mission is to promote the quality, stability and vitality of Durham’s residential neighborhoods. Just as many heads are better than one, neighborhoods gain strength by working together.
People come together in different ways to promote quality of life in Durham and INC’s membership rules are intentionally flexible to accommodate this. INC is a group of neighborhood organizations that can be subdivision homeowner associations or voluntary neighborhood groups working in specific neighborhoods. Therefore, non-profit 501(c)(4) organizations that promote residents’ interests in housing and neighborhood welfare are eligible to join. There is strength in our numbers when confronted with issues that impact our lives or to enhance our living.
INC is governed by a Board of Delegates from its member organization. Each member organization may send two delegates to participate in INC board meetings, but each neighborhood only gets one vote. Delegates are expected to communicate with their constituent organizations before voting. INC has Officers elected annually by the members voting through their delegates. These officers are involved with organizing and supporting meetings and making preliminary decisions.
Additionally, it is a non-partisan organization and does not endorse or contribute to candidates for political office.
Today we join with neighborhoods across Durham County to press for equal opportunity to safe and fair housing, environmental/sustainability policy, public services/utility issues, safety to walk or bike in and around the city, preservation of buildings of historic significance, and much more. We often have interesting guest speakers.
Come join us in a meeting! We would love to see you by Zoom or in person.
In this set of pages you will find the formal constructs of our organization if it interests you. Please contact us if you have any questions.
