Those of us who led the Disability Pride Parade are back to ask you to join in on another fun Disability Pride event with us. We were so moved by the love, joy, and pride that everyone brought that day, that we are excited to keep the energy going!
On October 11th at 11:30am we are hosting a Flash Mob at the Bull in Downtown Durham: 211 W Parrish St. Durham NC 27701.
We will be celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) and dancing to the song 9 to 5 by Dolly Parton. Everyone is encouraged to come dressed up in a costume that represents their dream job (for example, there will be people dressed as restaurant owners, singers, authors, teachers, fire fighters, parents etc).
Please have individuals fill out this form BY OCTOBER 4 to register and let us know what their dream job costume will be and if they need assistance with it.
Also, please share this opportunity and the link with your friends. Anyone and everyone who wants to show their Disability Pride is welcome to sign up.
This display is hoping to promote awareness of National Disability Employment Month (NDEAM) in a few ways. First, by allowing Disabled people to be dressed up as their dream job, we will be showing ourselves and those watching that we should be seen in these roles. We will also have signs out for people to scan for more information about NDEAM and to recognize businesses that already actively hire people with Disabilities. We will issue Press Releases to different News sources. And, when we hear from you and your participants about what your dream job is, we will be contacting appropriate companies in the Triangle to let them know about NDEAM and to make them aware of the potential that there are people wanting to work for them.
We would love to have you and your community participate in this event! Hope to see you there!
