“Join us for a journey which connects us to the spirit of this land and waters on our country”.
Uncle Moogy, Ngarrindjeri Kaurna Elder.
Dupang Festival 2026 will be a culturally rich and significant event aiming to foster a deep connection to Country, facilitate cultural exchange, and promote healing of the spirit. A part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Dupang Pangari will bring together Aboriginal dancers from various parts of Australia, local weavers, artists, and knowledge keepers, who will showcase the diversity and richness of Aboriginal cultures. This three-day camping festival will be hosted on the traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri people, on the spectacular waterfront of the Coorong, adjacent to Coorong National Park.
Dupang Festival 2026 will be a continuation of successful fringe events that Major Sumner (Uncle Moogy), and dance group Tal-Kin-Jeri have hosted in previous years, including Dupang (2018 & 2019) and Yarnin Pangari (2022, 2023 & 2025). The Coorong's waterfront site provides a picturesque backdrop, enhancing the overall experience and connection to the natural environment.
The expanded program for next year's Dupang festival will be diverse and promises to offer a rich and immersive experience for attendees including an arts and crafts marketplace, weaving, carving and dance workshops, yarning circles, storytelling, bush food walks and more. With shared ceremony the Aboriginal dance groups and attendees can share in celebrating and sharing Aboriginal culture and create a powerful and evocative atmosphere that will enhance the overall cultural experience. Daytime activities will offer educational and interactive opportunities, allowing attendees to actively engage with various aspects of Aboriginal culture and the evening ceremonies will provide a more contemplative space for reflection and appreciation.
Bringing this highly successful and anticipated festival back to the Coorong in 2026 is significant. The importance of hosting the festival on traditional lands, where Aboriginal people have shared and passed down their culture for hundreds of generations, cannot be overstated. The festival will act as a bridge, fostering understanding, respect, and appreciation for the diverse traditions and heritage of Australia's First Nations cultures.
Organising a festival of the scale and cultural significance of Dupang is an enormous endeavor that requires dedication, coordination, and resources. The involvement of Uncle Moogy, the Tal-Kin-Jeri dance group, and volunteers underscores the commitment to preserving and sharing Aboriginal culture. The logistical challenges are inevitable, but the past success festivals speaks to the passion and resilience of those involved.
Given the multifaceted nature of this large-scale festival, financial support and sponsorships are crucial for its success. The diverse elements, including on-site camping, workshops, ceremonies, performances, and educational activities, all contribute to the festival's richness but also incur costs. Financial support can help cover expenses such as artist fees and travel costs for dance group, logistics, promotion, and other essential aspects of event planning. Sponsorships from organisations, businesses, and community partners can play a pivotal role in ensuring the festival's sustainability and accessibility. Sponsors not only contribute to the financial aspect but also demonstrate a commitment to supporting cultural initiatives, fostering community connections, and promoting understanding between different communities.
We look forward to having a conversation with you about sponsorship of Dupang and joining the journey with us on this important cultural exchange and community event.
