A new grade school for Dunlap CUSD #323 is being constructed on the site of the existing Wilder-Waite school to house 600 pre-K through fifth grade students. The classroom wings of the brick and precast building will look out on a landscaped outdoor classroom. Interior finishes and colors were selected to create a comforting and welcoming environment for students and teachers. The gymnasium will serve double duty as an emergency storm shelter. Separate driveways for buses and parent vehicles will help keep children away from bus traffic during drop-off and pickup times and allow space for parents to queue up off the street. The project also includes new parking for 100 vehicles, extensive landscaping around the building, and outdoor play areas with new playground equipment.
