SOLVING PROBLEMS
There are so many solutions in coding, yours is not the only one and may not be the best
CRITICAL THINKING
You have to be critical when you code - is it going to work? - is it the best solution? -is there another way to complete the same task?
COMPUTATIONAL THINKING SKILLS
Concentration, Problem Solving, Logic and Reasoning, Failing Forward, 'Sticking @ It', precision...
PERSISTENCE
Once you get into coding it becomes a challenge. You see a game or a program and you ask "How is that done?" and "Can I do the same?". You start with tutorials and what has been done before, but then, at some point you just take ideas and know what to try and what to look for when there is a Glitch.
FUTURE
We are moving into a new world and even if we will not become coders understanding coding will be a huge benifit and the above skills will help us in any challenge that we face.
For me, I first was introduced to coding with the Hour of Code week and an Angry Bird / Plants Vs Zombies Coding Game. Each year the resources continue to improve and expand and the list of celebs that endorse coding gets longer and longer.
