If you are currently on a Duke department payroll or have been in the past month, congratulations: You don't have to fill out an I-9 form. We will need to know whether you will continue to work for your current Duke employer in addition to working for Technical Services.
If you have not been on a Duke payroll in the past month, there are additional requirements.
You can officially apply for a Technical Services Student Event Technician position through the JobX system at https://duke.studentemployment.ngwebsolutions.com/cmx_content.aspx?cpid=9
I will look at the applicants and contact those I wish to interview and give a quick tour.
If after meeting with me, we reach a mutual decision that you should get on our payroll, I will send you a confirmation through JobX and copy Campus Life Payroll. They will then email you forms that need to be filled out (some of which are referenced below) along with directions on how to meet with one of them. (The meeting can usually be done via Zoom.). If you have not previously sent Tech Services a copy of your Bio Form, please send to me as well as to Campus Life Payroll.
Logistics:
Federal regulations require that you fill out an I-9 form to prove your right to work in the US. If you have a U.S. Passport, that's all you need. Also commonly used are a combination of a legitimate photo ID and a Soc. Security Card. If you have any questions about other alternatives, please see the last page of the I-9 form. Our payroll person will need to see this/these documents.
Regretfully, getting paid usually means paying taxes, so you will need to fill out Fed Tax W4 and NC 4 forms for tax withholding.
You will need to provide direct-deposit information in order to be paid.
If you are under 18 years of age, we will need to fill out a Youth Employment Certificate. More information is at http://www.nclabor.com/wh/youth_instructions.htm
If you have a driver's license and wish to drive during the course of your work with us (which will increase the amount that you can work), we will need to make a photo copy of your license (note that the license will also meet the requirements of the I-9 photo ID mentioned above).
