Video streaming is one of the most important Internet applications nowadays. It is currently account for more nearly 80% of the total Internet traffic. Thanks to the advent of consumer-grade capturing devices, it is now possible to obtain high-quality immersive video content such as 360-degree videos. However, the immense size and low-delay requirement of immersive video content make it very challenging to delivery this type of content over the Internet in real-time while maintaining high visual quality. To realize immersive video services, the entire streaming pipeline from encoding, transport, and display technologies have to be fundamentally enhanced. The objective of this talk is to provide an introduction to the generation, streaming, and evaluation of immersive video, as well as the remaining challenges in order to provide truly immersive video services.
