This workshop introduces the use of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics for coastal and maritime engineering applications, with particular emphasis on the coupling between DualSPHysics and wave-resolving models such as SWASH through open boundary conditions.
The course combines theoretical lectures and hands-on sessions. Participants will first work with standard DualSPHysics wave–structure interaction cases, including floating bodies and XML case setup, before moving towards coupled simulations involving bathymetry, wave propagation, coastal structures, wave forces and armour blocks.
This research is developed within the framework of the AURORA research project, integrating numerical and experimental modelling on breakwater Armour Unit Resilience and Optimisation for Real engineering Applications (PID2024-155465OB-C21 and PID2024-155465OB-C22), funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/FEDER, EU.
The course is also supported by the AWESDI project (Atlantic Wave Energy Sustainable Deployment Initiative), co-funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area Programme through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
