Procedure Performed- Open Umbilical Hernia Repair
The proposed procedure was discussed with the patient along with alternatives. All risks and benefits were explained to the patient and he/she agreed to the procedure.
The patient was given preoperative antibiotics, brought back to the operating room, placed supine on the OR table, and a time-out was performed. The patient was then prepped and draped using standard prep
A number 10 scalpel was used to make a semicircular incision above the umbilicus. Dissection down to the fascia was performed using electrocautery. The patient had a small incarcerated umbilical hernia. The incarcerated material was the omentum. This was excised and removed. The small defect, which was less than 3 cm, was over sewn and repaired using 0-0 Prolene suture.
At the end of the case, counts were carried out. Instrument, sponge, and needle counts were completed and reported to me as correct.
The wound was then irrigated. The skin was closed using absorbable stitch.
The patient tolerated the procedure well and was transferred to the recovery room in stable and satisfactory condition.
