Discord Access

The Big No's:

• No harassment

• No bullying

• No discrimination

• No hate speech or slurs

  • (Reclaimed slurs are permitted within context.)

• No inciting violence

• No doxxing

Note: It still counts as a "big no" even if the person is not present on the server. Keep it classy.

Boundaries

• "Conflict is not abuse."

  • • Discourse is normal and healthy.

    • Recognize when conflict has spiraled into fighting and walk away.

• You are responsible for your own emotions and actions.

  • • Recognize the difference between lashing out and self-defense.

Ouch-Thank You

• • Ouch: everyone takes a step back. "Timeout".

  • Thank you: not "sorry". The agreement to stop the conflict.

Disability is Not a Competition

• • Disability is framed by context and intersectionality

  • Respect the varied experiences of others

  • We acknowledge that the world was not built with any of us in mind

  • Let people have their moments of joy

    • • When someone is celebrating a temporary or permanent recovery, do not use that as an opportunity to complain

We are LGBTQ+ Affirming

• • Believe people when they tell you who they are

    • • Call people by their correct pronouns

We are BIPOC Affirming

• • Diverse experiences are welcomed

    • • Be respectful when others discuss experiences of medical racism

Expect sensitive topics to come up frequently. 

Examples of sensitive topics include:

• Medical details (gore, distress, eating disorders, addiction, etc.)

• Description of violence or abuse

• Common phobias (needles, spiders, ect.)

• Body dysphoria

• Overt negativity or doomerism

• Politics

• Sex

Be Kind By...

• Posting sensitive topics in the appropriate channel

• Using ||spoiler tags|| to cover up sensitive text

• Blurring sensitive images

Optional Channels

• The server has several optional channels for discussing:

    • Mental Health Topics

    • Neurodivergent Topics

    • Medical News

    • Politics

Muting and Blocking

• You can mute individual channels or the entire server.

• You can block and/or ignore users. Both do different things.

• It is not against the rules to mute, block, or ignore anything or anyone. Including officers.

  • • If this prevents full access to server benefits, that is your responsibility.

Keep it Simple

• No spam posting

  • Do not post excessive one word or short posts in a row within a short period of time

  • Channels have designated topics. Stay on topic

  • Do not excessively complain or gossip about people, including yourself

• No soliciting. We are not a marketplace

• With very few exceptions, do not @ everyone

Non-Club Related Events

• Non-club UB and other local events can be shared in ⁠📅-share-events

  • Pre-approval is not required

Homework Interviews

• Only for homework may you recruit other members for interviews and surveys

  • Consent is sexy

  • After recruitment, discuss it off-server

• It is not permissible to study any club meeting or group sessions or discord conversations for any reason

• Under no circumstances may you use deception to study the DSAA server or other DSAA activities

  • We are not a study population

Inciting Fear

• Do not spread misinformation

• Do not spread panic regarding ICE sightings

  • Please follow S.A.L.U.T.E. instead

  • Immigration and safety resources are available here on our club website

Strikes

• Violations of the rules will result in a strike

• A strike occurs when an officer intervenes due to rule breaking

  • You will be informed which rule was broken

• Three strikes = suspension or kicked from server

• Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse

• Particularly egregious behavior may result in an immediate penalty

  • Officers reserve the right to timeout, suspend, or kick at any time

  • Officers are required, in writing, to explain why you were penalized

Off -Topic/Move Channels

• General requests to move discussions to the appropriate channel does not count as a strike

• Repeated violations regarding "sensitive topics" may lead to a strike or timeout

Club Officers have Moderator Powers

• If you have an issue with another member's behavior that you cannot handle alone, report it to a club officer

Loss of Discord Privileges

• Losing Discord privileges does not equate to losing club membership. This will be handled by the officers on a case-by-case basis
