The biofilter is a pool with drainage on the bottom, loaded with filtrate material. In the biofilter, the settled waste liquid, passing through the filter material, is cleaned by the biological film created on it, similar to the activated sludge of aeration tanks. In the biofilter, the film envelops the grains of the load and, as it grows, is washed off with water; Air enters the loading pores through its surface, drainage and walls.
The best biofilters are air filters and biofilters with increased loading height and liquid recirculation.
