What are drugs?
According to the National Cancer Institute, drugs are "Any substance (other than food) that is used to prevent, diagnose, treat, or relieve symptoms of a disease or abnormal condition. Drugs can also affect how the brain and the rest of the body work and cause changes in mood, awareness, thoughts, feelings, or behavior (NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms, n.d.)".
Drugs are taken in different ways despite this, they all go into the body. Once they are in the body, they make their way to the bloodstream. Depending on the drugs taken it will have effects on a person. Some can make you drowsy or disoriented while others may make you more alert (Drugs: What to Know (for Teens), n.d.)".

Overdose
Overdose is when a person consumes more than the typical amount of a substance (Pugle, 2024)".
In 2022 there were 107,941 people that died from overdoses. That is about 244 people who died per day (How Many Drug Overdose Deaths Happen Every Year in the US? | USAFacts, n.d.)".
