"I really liked Dr. Campbell's flexibility and willingness to help students. This course was helpful for me because I learned a lot about the career path I'm interested in."
"The course was very well structured and Dr. Campbell offered lots of feedback throughout the course. The class was also very interactive and engaging."
"There was a lot of peer work which made us closer as a class, allowed for deep conversations, and created a safe space to have the hard conversations."
"She was very considerate of my needs when I approached her with some issues or problems I was having."
"I truly value the amount of time Dr. Campbell puts into her grading. On projects we worked hard on, I received paragraphs of review on what could be improved and what looked good in a very timely manner."
"We were constantly invited to share our views and experiences in the class which made it a very welcoming environment."
"The way the course is set up gave me life skills that will genuinely be helpful during and after college. the career portfolio taught me how to look for and prepare for a job in depth- something that would've otherwise stressed me out."
Grows
"There were too many speakers. Speakers are fun, but it was a lot."
Action: Mix up panel speakers with campus visits (fitness and recreation center, athletics).
Follow up: Overall, positive feedback from students regarding site visits. Some student commented that it still felt like too many site visits/guest speakers.
Action: Continue to minimize site visits and guest speakers. Replace with student presentations.
"Sometimes it was hard to locate the slides since they were all in one place."
Action: Add a table of contents that helps students navigate GoogleSlides.
Follow up: Students appreciated table of contents and did not comment on having difficulty locating slides.
"Readings did not support my my learning."
Action: I've adopted a new textbook. The text is expensive, so I've started a pay it forward book return. Many students return their text to help students in need.
"I'm not sure that I loved the amount of peer review in the class. I don't feel like we all have the same values as far as effort levels, so I often found that a peer reviewer would respond with "oh that looks great" with little to no feedback."
Place peers in groups of 3-4 so there is ongoing accountability. Award points for peer reviews.
Follow-up: Small peer review groups were effective. Students were more accountable, received more feedback, and bonded with group members.
Glows
I liked the reflections on weekly activities. Looking back on them, I can see that I learned a lot of new things.
I appreciated the space at the end of each log to put anything we needed help or guidance with from Dr. Campbell.
I always felt like I had someone in my corner.Dr. Campbell is a great instructor and was a lovely mentor to have while working to complete my internship. I really enjoyed my internship and am so glad that DU pushed me to pursue it.
The instructor also made me feel like I could ask questions about anything. If I needed help, I know the instructor would help me and respond in detail to my questions. This made it a very welcoming and comforting environment for me.
I really liked the quality of the feedback that was given on all the assignments.
Grows
It would be helpful if we could see the feedback our supervisor provides.
Action: I want to keep a space for the supervisor to confide information to me honestly. Therefore, I will take extra steps to encourage students to reach out to their mentor for feedback. This is a great skill to learn for the job market too.
Glows
Dr. Campbell incorporates things that we had learn into each following assignment so that our knowledge could build upon itself. She provides in depth feedback for every assignment and did so in a timely manner.
I appreciated the time given for checking in with peers and the time we had to go on walks (go outside) and reset.
Dr. C always makes sure that all questions are answered from every perspective. She also makes sure to include everyone in the discussion to ensure everyone's voice is being heard.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion was stressed in almost everything we did with real world examples of how to make sure everyone is included in our work.
I normally do not speak up much in classes, but I felt comfortable doing so in this classroom.
I enjoyed how each assignment we did was something that we could potentially see in the future working world.
Grows
Some assignments (like SoCS and IMs) got a bit of repetitive. Because of this, it got difficult by the end of the quarter to put in the same effort that was there at the beginning of the quarter. I appreciated how these assignments helped me focus while I was reading and take in the information, but it may have been beneficial to change the homework assignments up sometimes.
Action: Adjust from completing SoCS and IMs to one time/week instead of two.
Glows
The weekly outlines made it easy for me to stay organized and keep track of what I needed to do.
I loved how interactive our professor made the class, how much she cared for her students, how she encourages everyone to use their voice.
I like that the readings and videos went with the class discussion so there was incentive to read/watch them. I love how Dr. Campbell leads discussions and values what her students say.
Some things I liked most about Dr. Campbell is that she always pushed us to apply what we learned in class to the real world and more specifically a career path we are interested in.
The student-led discussions were a great way to challenge our learning, and they made for a very community-like class environment.
Dr. Campbell always made sure to have a "check in" with our peers at the beginning of every class. This allowed me to feel part of a community.
I appreciated when Dr. Campbell put us in groups, so we did not have to awkwardly choose our own groups.
Grows
The textbook required for this course was not utilized for most of the quarter. It was only used for the first few weeks and then separate readings from the text were required.
Action: This textbook will not be required next time. A few chapter readings will be provided in Canvas.
Some of the topics are heavy and draining. Consistently incorporating a break or regroup would be helpful.
Action: About half way through each class, students will walk and talk to regroup.
Not just focus on sports, it was ethics in kinesiology not just sports.
Action: Read about ethics in kinesiology this summer. Incorporate new topics that broaden the scope of the course.
I think some topics of what we talked about could be hard for students. Although there was usually a trigger warning that doesn't always mean you could avoid it.
Action: I've added a trigger warning to the syllabus and modules. I plan to replace the athlete abuse module with another topic from kinesiology.
Glows
I liked how the course brought in current events and we could talk about them.
I liked all the videos that we watched because they showed a lot of things that are happening in sports. This class was easily one of the best classes I have taken at DU.
Dr. Campbell is very understanding of all situations but still has high expectations and encourages us to push further.
The environment was very welcoming, probably the most welcoming and inclusive class I’ve had since being here at DU.
We had guidelines that we put together for our discussions to ensure that the classroom was a safe space and we could check ourselves before, during, and after the conversation.
Grows
One thing was that I was in both the DEI and Ethics classes and sometimes it felt a little overwhelming.
Action: DEI and Ethics are no longer taught during the same quarter.
I really like the idea behind the poster assignment. I think we should have one more assignment or event where we get to go spread what we have learned throughout campus.
Action: Consider showcasing the posters at the library for a week or two following the event.
Follow-up: Collaboration with the library was a success. No only did they help us create professional posters, but they displayed them for the entire quarter for DU students and faculty to see.
I wish there were more activities like the poster design competition that got us out of the classroom.
Action: Consider other projects students can take on to impact DU and the larger Denver community.

"I really appreciated how diverse the methods of teaching were in the course. In addition to lectures, guest instructors, and engaging reading, the experience of playing sports and applying concepts was extremely valuable."
"Prof. Campbell has been one of my favorite professors I have had here at DU. She is insightful and makes her class incredibly open where we have the floor most of the time making the class mainly discussion based."
"I learned a great deal about sport psychology as well as questioning some stagnant psychological practices or theories through this course. I found this course to be very helpful towards my major in psychology."
"She was understanding that things in life happen and her course isn't our entire life, unlike some professors. She was always willing to listen and help if I was lost throughout the quarter."
"This was one of my favorite class I have ever taken. I feel like the instructor made it so I learned a great deal, was interested in the material, and wanted to come to class."
"Professor Campbell did a great job to get us to dig deeper into our past sports history and how we related to each topic and I found this to be very enlightening in how I viewed myself and my past history in sports."
"I loved playing corn hole throughout the course of the class and seeing how the [sport psychology] theories may apply to these tournaments."
"Dr. Campbell regularly mentioned issues of race, gender, and sexuality, and how they intersect with sport psychology in a meaningful and constructive way."
I feel most comfortable in that class than any other and feel much closer to my peers in this class than any other.
Grows
"Spread out the assignments more. There were a lot of reading reflections and group projects during the last three weeks of the class compared to the beginning."
Action: None. I still believe workload is manageable, especially since there is no final exam in this course.
"The textbook is dense so maybe look at changing it."
Action: New textbook/readings needed. In the process of exploring options (podcasts, journal articles).
"5 group projects in 10 weeks is too many."
Action: Incorporate individuals grades for group projects. Assign a group leader for each group project.
Glows
Strong engagement with the discussion board and assignment feedback.
Dr. Campbell is always respectful and provides a variety of resources that expose us to several different perspectives. She may challenge you to dive deeper, but I believe this was extremely beneficial.
Grows
The assigned readings felt a bit dated and not always the highest-quality
Action: Review course readings and reflect on whether they contribute to course and program outcomes.
I do wish that we could do more video / zoom discussions as a group.
Action: Add more video responses into discussion boards and assignment feedback.
