2nd Quarter NSED Successfully Conducted Despite Local Holiday in Mati City
The 2nd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) commenced as scheduled on June 19, 2025, with a total of 2,202 schools across DepEd Region XI actively participating in the earthquake preparedness activity.
However, in the City of Mati, the observance of a local holiday in celebration of its Cityhood Day coincided with the NSED date. As a result, schools in the locality either advanced their drills or conducted them the following day to ensure full participation.
Despite this scheduling adjustment, schools in the City of Mati demonstrated their commitment to disaster preparedness, showing that readiness must remain a priority regardless of the presence or absence of an actual emergency. This reflects a proactive mindset—one that upholds the principle that preparedness should not be compromised, even by non-working holidays.

On March 13, 2025, at exactly 9:00 AM, all schools under the Schools Division of the City of Mati participated in the 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) 2025. Students and teachers promptly executed the "duck, cover, and hold" protocol and then proceeded to their designated evacuation areas within the school premises. Despite the hot weather, participants remained focused and cooperative. Every second counted as early warning alarms echoed throughout the school grounds, signaling the start of the drill. Everyone was well-oriented on the necessary actions during an actual earthquake. As one schoolteacher remarked, "It’s better to be prepared than to risk chaos or a stampede when extracting students from classrooms during actual earthquake situations."
