Chatted with award‑winning journalist and cancer immunotherapy advocate Gilly Mathieson! Gilly is currently traveling across Asia, Australia, Europe, and beyond, speaking to leading scientists, clinicians, biotech innovators, and fellow survivors to explore how vaccines could reshape future care.
While I’m by no means a pioneer in cancer vaccines, I shared something close to my heart: hope…and a passionate belief in a future where we can prevent breast cancer altogether.
Thank you, Gilly, for giving us the opportunity to create a space where science meets human story in the name of real change.

I had the wonderful opportunity to participate as a speaker at the 17th International Science Youth Forum (ISYF), hosted by Hwa Chong Institution in Singapore. The event brought together over 130 talented students and 40 educators from Singapore and overseas, all passionate about exploring the frontiers of science.
The theme, "Innovation Unified: Towards a Better Future," was a powerful reminder of science's role in addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges. It was humbling to share a space with so many enthusiastic young minds and to contribute, in my small way, to their journey of discovery.
During my Masterclass, I spoke about my work in breast cancer research, focusing on how one scientific question often leads to another. I aimed to simplify complex topics so they could resonate with the students, whose curiosity and enthusiasm were palpable throughout the session.
The Q&A that followed was particularly memorable. The students asked insightful and thoughtful questions (and there were many!)—some of which made me pause and reflect on my own work. Their interest in expected reminded me how important it is to engage with fresh perspectives, even from those just beginning their scientific journeys.
What struck me most about ISYF was how much I learned from the students. Their excitement, creativity, and optimism were infectious, and it was a privilege to witness the next generation’s eagerness to make a difference. Events like this reaffirm the importance of mentorship and creating spaces where young minds can thrive and connect with others who share their passions.
I am deeply grateful to the organizers of ISYF for inviting me to be part of such a meaningful event. Sharing my experiences was rewarding, but even more so was the chance to interact with such brilliant young people. I left the forum feeling inspired and hopeful about the future of science, knowing that it is in such capable and caring hands.
To all the students I met: thank you for reminding me of the joy of curiosity and the power of questions. I look forward to seeing where your passion for science takes you.
