An opportunity to present DEL coursework put in practice occurred on September 11, 2017 at a tri-state conference. For one hour, two planners and I presented how we learned to define the right questions, walk through the best answers, and implement as measurable and achievable actions in difficult times. The remarkable part of the presentation is the conference was for already successful organizations involved in the Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program for organizations. My office was not a member of the organization but had been seen as an example worth hearing from as to how we routinely performed in excellence. I took a relatively new planner, a senior level planner and myself as the executive director of the organization. We were the only non-affiliate organization to present. We joined five Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recipients. We were well received. As the title of the PowerPoint shows, the presentation was on Integrative Leadership and Steward Leading organizations and communities. The conference material included a version of the paper also presented with this artifact. The paper is scholastically written so to withhold any challenges that may have come up (but did not) as to the credibility of the work my office performed.
The presentation shares my former office's work. The work of the office was influenced both by the DEL program course of study and my team's involvement in Six Sigma training.
3. Assemble, align, and reconfigure tangible and intangible assets to sustain organizations', communities', or institutions' viability for the future.
This presentation demonstrated how taking the talents of all in an office, growing and stretching them into interdependence leads to remarkable production of quality work. The presentation's material is positioned to help the office I left in Ohio, along with the participants of the tri-state conference.
5. Assess existing research and practice to the practice of leadership
In sharing how a relatively small staff can repeatedly accomplish great product, this conference presentation potentially impacted other leaders in other disciplines. The transferability of the work contributes to the applied practice of leadership.
