This clean lab space includes two fume hoods, and a laminar flow cabinet for work requiring protection from contamination.
For analytical work, there is a Vanta C Series Handheld X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analyzer set up in a bench-top shielded workstation and a Nicolet Summit X FTIR spectrometer. A Macroscopic Solutions core scanner and a Leica petrographic microscope camera are available for imaging.
Other equipment includes a small furnace for LOI/TOC analysis, a drying oven, hot plates and water bath for temperature control, and a vacuum filtration system for microplastic separation.
Prep Lab
This is where samples are prepared for further analysis. Equipment includes a refrigerator and freezer for sample storage, two drying ovens, a Spex mill for powdering rock samples, and a sieve shaker for separating sediments and soils into different size fractions.
