Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone. Go to the "Automation" tab at the bottom and tap "New Automation" (or the "+" icon in the top-right corner).

Select the trigger that will start the recording. Choose "Bluetooth" for standard car stereos, or "CarPlay" if your vehicle is CarPlay-compatible.

1. Select Your Vehicle 

Tap "Device" and select your car's Bluetooth name from the list.

If your device is not listed: Your iPhone must be paired with your car. Go to iPhone Settings > Bluetooth and ensure your car's Bluetooth name appears in the "My Devices" list. Note: If you are setting this up via CarPlay, this selection step will be skipped.

2. Check "Is Connected"

 Ensure that the checkbox under the icon for "Is Connected" is selected. Note: We will use "Is Disconnected" later for the "Stop Recording" setup. Leave it unchecked for now.

3. Select "Run Immediately" [CRUCIAL] 

Check "Run Immediately" to ensure the app starts recording automatically even while your iPhone is in your pocket or bag.

Why this matters: If you select "Ask Before Running," you will receive a notification every time you get in your car. Recording will not start until you manually tap that notification.

4. Tap "Next" Tap the "Next" button in the top-right corner.

On the "Add Action" screen, a list of apps will appear. Scroll down and select DrivingReport.

• Can't find it? Use the search bar at the bottom and type "DrivingReport" to locate the app immediately.

A list of actions for DrivingReport will appear. Since we are setting up the "Start" sequence, tap "Start Drive."

Great job! You’ve successfully automated the "Start" process. Now, let’s follow the same steps to automate "Stop Recording." It’s very simple—you only need to change one trigger condition!

Tap the "+" icon in the top-right corner to begin a second automation.

Select the same trigger you used before: "Bluetooth" for standard stereos or "CarPlay" if your vehicle is compatible.

1. Select Your Vehicle

• Tap "Device" and select your car's Bluetooth name from the list.

• Note: If you are using CarPlay, this selection step will be skipped.

2. Check "Is Disconnected" Only

• Tap "Is Disconnected" to check it.

• [CRUCIAL]: Tap "Is Connected" (which is checked by default) to uncheck it.

3. Select "Run Immediately" [CRUCIAL]

• Check "Run Immediately". This ensures the recording stops automatically even if your iPhone remains in your pocket or bag.

• Warning: If "Ask Before Running" is selected, the recording will continue until you manually tap a notification on your iPhone.

4. Tap "Next"

On the action selection screen, you will see a list of apps. Scroll down and select DrivingReport.

• Pro Tip: If you don’t see it, simply type "DrivingReport" into the search bar at the bottom to find it instantly.

A list of available actions for DrivingReport will appear. Since this is the "Stop" configuration, tap "Finish Drive."

Note: Be careful to select "Finish Drive"  here. It is a different action from the "Start" sequence we set up earlier.

Check your Automation list in the Shortcuts app. If you see two entries—"When [Your iPhone] is connected" and "When [Your iPhone] is disconnected"—you are finished!

How it works in the real world:

• Start Recording: When you start your engine and your iPhone connects to your car's Bluetooth/CarPlay, your trip recording begins automatically.

  • Note: Depending on your car's system, it may take approximately 30 seconds for the connection to be detected. If you don't see an immediate notification after starting the engine, don't worry—this is normal behavior, and your trip is being captured correctly.

• Stop Recording: When you arrive at your destination and turn off the engine, the connection is lost, and your trip is automatically saved and finished.

  • Note: Similarly, there may be a 30-second delay before the final save notification appears after the engine is turned off. Rest assured, your data is being saved securely.

First-time use: You may see a notification on your iPhone asking for permission to run the automation for the first time. Please tap "Allow" to ensure it works seamlessly in the future.
