RESEARCH FOCUS

Evolutionary ecology and diversity

My lab takes a holistic approach to understanding patterns and processes in biological diversity by combining detailed natural history studies, field studies, and lab work including molecular data. Using this approach we answer questions about ecological patterns and test hypotheses about how they evolved to be this way. Our research focuses on butterflies, and we work with both immature and adult stages in the field and lab. We work in the Neotropics as well as in North America focused on several lineages of butterflies that are conceptually interesting given their adaptive wing patterns, undiscovered and undocumented diversity, and conservation concern.
