Instructor's Biography
Dr. Kannan B T is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, with over a decade of research and teaching experience in combustion, experimental fluid mechanics, and flow diagnostics. He holds a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where his research focused on mixing in Multiple Turbulent Jets and imaging/visualization of unsteady fluid phenomena.
His expertise spans high-speed imaging techniques, droplet combustion, and visualization techniques, viz. Schlieren and Shadowgraphy. He has conducted extensive research on droplet behavior under Leidenfrost conditions, and his work includes the experimental investigation of fuel-water emulsions, secondary atomization, and vapor ignition dynamics using advanced optical tools and diagnostics.
Dr. Kannan has hands-on experience with a wide range of imaging and diagnostic tools including high-speed cameras, stroboscopic lighting, laser-based velocimetry systems like PIV and PLIF, and spray visualization. His ongoing work includes developing instructional experiments for undergraduate and graduate students in areas like flame visualization, particle dynamics, and spray characterization.
He has published in reputed journals such as Physics of Fluids and Journal of Aerospace Engineering and regularly reviews for leading international journals in the field of experimental and computational fluid dynamics. Dr. Kannan has also mentored several student teams in experimental diagnostics and has designed custom lab modules to teach fundamental and advanced concepts in optical flow visualization.
With this Professional Elective course on Combustion and Flow Diagnostics, Dr. Kannan brings together his rich academic background, experimental rigor, and passion for hands-on learning to equip students with the tools and insights necessary for research and innovation in modern fluid and combustion diagnostics.
