As part of an educational experiment called Literacy Unbound, thirteen teachers from four different countries and seven states came together alongside thirteen New York City high school students for two weeks to read, write, and perform in creative collaboration. Ceremonially stripped of their titles—no more teacher and student— the group would work together as players to remix Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as a way to unsettle, challenge, create, and play within and beyond the spaces of meaning that are typically constructed in schooled-reading practices.
