Today was the day that Cobalt had been dreading for two weeks now. He was sick of getting condolences for the loss of his father. He had not yet come to grips with what the death of his father meant. He also was unaware of the massive responsibility of being the head of the biggest company in the world. Over the past week, world leaders, business partners, leaders of industry, as well as actors and actresses and many more, had all informed Cobalt of how great his father was. Funny thing was none of them even having a clue that him or his father was a dragon. Since the death of Ormr, the castle grounds where Cobalt had spent his entire life had been full of strangers who knew his dad.
Cobalt went to his dad's study, a place in which he knew he was not allowed to be alone. He wanted a place where he could have some quiet and not have to face the loss of his father. When he arrived at the study, he saw Ra, the god of the sun in Egyptian mythology. Ormr and Ra were good friends. When Ormr was on his tour of the destruction of the world, he and Ra had some fun together traveling across Africa, killing, stealing gold, diamonds, and other riches. Cobalt only knew Ra as Uncle Ra however, a close family friend who had watched him grow up. Ra, who was looking at old photos of his old friend, saw Cobalt and asked,
"How are you doing, kiddo?"
Seeing the pain on Cobalt's face. "They want me to speak," Cobalt explained to Ra, "I'm not ready to say goodbye to him; I am not even two hundred years old."
Ra gestured for Cobalt to sit in his father's chair. Cobalt froze, flashing back to the only time he was allowed in the room.
~~~Ormr was meeting with Teddy Roosevelt, the cyclops, who always carried a massive club. Cobalt was only twenty at the time and being so young, Ormr invited Cobalt into the room. Ormr who took a human form for all business dealing let him sit on his lap. At the time, Cobalt wasn't sure what was happening. Ormr was arguing with Teddy about opening national parks in America with land that would be preserved and protected. This would serve two purposes. It would help to protect the earth from being destroyed by the people living on the planet, and give a place for many natural mythical creatures to live in peace from people without fear of losing their land.~~~
Bells began to ring, snapping Cobalt out of his flashback. "It's time," said Ra putting a hand on the back of Cobalt's back as they both walked out of the study.
Cobalt searched and found his mom and went to the massive courtyard where the funeral was starting. Looking around he saw everyone, was present from Zeus to Odin, Gilgamesh, Dracula, Venus as well as thousands of others all present for Ormr's funeral. It was clear by the distinguished guests present the impact that Ormr held and left as his legacy, but Cobalt couldn't be present at the funeral any longer. He stood up feeling queazy and told his mother that he needed to use the restroom. Standing up and wanting to disappear, Cobalt walks to the overlook in the castle. Cobalt looked down, over Austria, He was standing at the highest point in the castle overlooking a cliff. He looked back one more time and sees the smoke from the pyre. He had missed the end of the funeral saddened he jumps.
For this story I was really interested in showing the impact that was left by Ormr on Cobalt. I wanted to set up that there will be a few flashbacks through the rest of this story as we get to watch Cobalt's adventure of him discovering who he is on this journey. I thought that it would be very interesting for the first mythical character that we get to meet to be Ra one of the most powerful of the Egyptian gods. Despite being nearly 200 years old when Ormr died Cobalt is still very young in his life stages. Ormr died well over one thousand five hundred years old. Ormr has sheltered Cobalt his entire life while grooming him to run business when he died. Cobalt has never left the castle and didn't expect his dad to die for thousands of more years. The first flashback shows a little more about the world. It has a historical figure that a lot of people have probably heard about but my twist is I turned the traits he had as a person and made him into a cyclops. This was for two reasons, the first one is that he has the famous quote speak softly and carry a big stick. I also made him a cyclops because Teddy Roosevelt wore glasses, I thought that bad vision could instead be to fool people because he only had one eye. One of the big impacts of Teddy Rosevelt is conservation and so it was actually Ormr in this story that gave him the idea for conservation.
