The world has become a vast arrangement of floating islands of varying sizes and shapes. This dizzy universe is populated with rogues, peasants, and petty lords. Their main concerns are for survival, for this world has become plagued with hungry creatures, who are wreaking havoc, known as dragons.

Lian-Chu and Gwizdo are two dragon hunters, but they are a long way from being among the best. Lian Chu is a hulking brute with the heart of gold, and Gwizdo is an avaricious, high-strung young man with a talent for scams. Their private dream is to own a farm where they can relax and raise sheep.

A few floating islands away, there is a fortress owned by Lord Arnold. The lord has a problem. He has been living in fear of the return of World Eater, a monstrous dragon that rises every twenty years to spread terror and destruction. Nobody has been able to conquer him. And nobody has ever returned alive or sane enough to tell the tale. Lord Arnold's niece Zoe has decided to take matters into her own hands, and she finds Lian-Chu and Gwizdo to help her. She is convinced that they are the heroes of her dreams, and she goes with them to the end of the earth for a fantastic and dangerous adventure.

I would suspect that your favorite dragon modder will be incorporating most of the modifications that Zero has for their scooters, everything from the external battery, to hopefully the 10X limited display setup (I already have a 750c+BT display here), I'll just need to get the esc's.

To use magic, one needs a substance called Runium, a liquid that is brewed from the blood of dragons. So, dragon hunters, while having a dangerous job, have the potential to make lots of cash off the rare substance, even if mages are super illegal. Runium may be outlawed, but that never stops anyone from selling it, and there is, in fact, a pretty big store of it in the palace under heavy guard. Well, rebellious teenagers with magical talent gonna rebel, and get some of that sweet, sweet Runium.

A bit more cleaning up, roughed in maybe a foreground, dragon’s head, knight. These are only ever for me to see. I’m pre-solving some problems and just sort of place holding stuff. I’m really not a sketch person for paintings like this. I get my basics in and solve a lot of problems in paint. That’s the beauty of photoshop and digital, you can do that. It’s the pain point of doing something like a cover illustration for a publisher. They want to see multiple super tight versions of it all all stages.

roughed in the horse and rider vaguely in an approximation of their values. I start to rough in trees and the serpentine body of the dragon. I’m just messing around here. I think I change almost all of this. A lot of the composition here relies on the dragon blending in to foliage but not so much that it’s fully lost, more of a second read. so I am figuring out how to use color and value together to create the contrast I want while laying this out. I’m just messing about till it clicks into place, really.

Not much has changed here, you can just see me exploring what to do with branches and how they interact with the dragon. I’m testing out foliage and messing with what’s happening behind the knight

I’m starting to refine now. The head of the dragon is resting on its body still in this version. I move that later. Testing values between the foliage and the body of the dragon and figuring out what I want to do with how the long body wraps around the branches

Here’s where I decided to pull the dragon’s head around the tree. Having the head hidden was more subtle for sure but the mood wasn’t what I wanted it to be. I knew I could still keep it fairly knocked back by keeping the values tight and painting leaf clusters to look similarly shaped. In the rest of the painting there’s more shape, value and color exploration, refining some areas I’m feeling confident with. I change almost all of it later but I’m just exploring getting some stuff blocked in a bit tighter.

The dragon’s face was next. My main focal point is the horse and knight followed by the dragon’s face so I give it some time here. I’m overall confident with the composition and am ready to really start digging into more detail.

Tons more detail and refining. Added a left foreground tree and a leaf cluster shape mimicking the shape of the dragon’s head to help blend the dragon into the environment. My third read is the belly touching the branch, so I spend some time on that and get some contrasting color and value around it, being careful to make it pop out but not too much.

I refine the right foreground trees, darken them and get some lighter value in the foliage behind them to make them stand out.

Lightened the area behind the right foreground trees even more, then detailed out the horse and Knight. I added in all of the medieval decorative tack and put a big red feather on the knight’s helm pushing forward to help with the feeling that the horse is stopping or the dragon is blowing on the back of his neck or some combination of the two.

Here’s where I extended the painting out more, you probably noticed bits of extra grey space around the painting in previous shots. The canvas was actually much bigger all around that I was working on. I keep my reference on my canvas at all times, just kind of staggered around the painting. If I do decide to extend the painting a bit I can just sort of paint out more. In this case I felt the dragon was too close to the edge and the rider I wanted just a tiny bit more centered.

It's power Dragonhunter everywhere except for certain raid bosses. Unless you are in raids, the burn damage won't have enough time to ramp up before the enemy either dies or phases + cleanses. Also, know that the buff ascended gives to power builds is greater than what it gives to condition builds.

Dragonhunter is only used in roaming for WvW due to the mobility of the Soaring Devastation trait and in PvP it is countered by many different things especially if running longbow instead of sword+focus or any variant of scepter. The armor is generally marauder there.

As far as a pure DPS in PvE after the bugfix change to Zealous Blade it falls a bit behind Holosmith (which stacks vulnerability and has very consistent damage with Photon Forge) and merged power Soulbeast (which typically has spotter or frost spirit and a damage boost via Sic Em or One Wolf Pack). Power chrono is not a realistic use case because of the slow required for Danger time , only people that blindly follow benchmark charts without understanding the implications of slow uptime and keeping up phantasms think it is a great DPS. The reason dragonhunter is popular is "Feel my Wrath" which allows for quickness application without dedicated a quickness support.

I would recommend a Dragonhunter for Beginners. Firebrand needs longer to master in my opinion. Also for most general stuff (Open World, Dungeons, Fractal entry levels) it is just more convenient with just pure berserk build.

In the last weeks I've played plenty of power Herald, condi Herald, condi Renegade, power Dragonhunter, hybrid Firebrand and dire Firebrand, in both open world PvE, PvP and WvW, experimenting with the stats, the weapons, skills and trait selection. Until April the power Dragonhunter was my favourite iteration of the class: easier to play, bursty, excellent in PvE and decent at PvP/WvW.

Hagenius brevistylus, as the dragon hunter is formally known, is a brutish insect. An adult can measure 31/2 inches. Comparatively small eyes cap a beefy, broad-shouldered thorax. Long, powerful, spiny legs seize prey, which the dragonfly plucks from the air.

Dragon hunters are extreme aerialists, putting on Ferrari-like bursts of speed and jagging with mind-numbing quickness. They use their skills and power to overcome big victims such as swallowtail butterflies and other dragonflies almost as large as themselves.

The universe of Dragon Hunters (original French title: Chasseurs de Dragons) is created by Arthur Qwak and produced by the French company Futurikon. It follows the adventures of two inseparable friends, Lian-Chu and Gwizdo, working as dragon hunters for hire through a quasi-medieaval world of floating land masses that is terrorized by a widely varying menace of monsters of different shapes and sizes known collectively as Dragons.
