SHD composites Ltd (Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP): Line Manager)
The aim of the project was to characterise a novel bio-based Polyfurfuryl Alcohol (PFA) prepreg composites. The PFA samples were cured by the autoclave and oven based methods. A comprehensive mechanical, thermal and physical testing was carried out on the composite samples according to ISO standards. As a results, a new product was launched in the market as a potential replacement of the phenolic based resin system for fire retardant applications such as train and aircraft interiors and batteries covers. The project outcome was rated as "very good" by innovate UK.
The KTP project involved regular meetings with company CEO and technical manager in order to keep track of the proposed work plan and setting project targets. Weekly visits were conducted to provide technical and professional support to KTP associate. I also managed and approved KTP project expenses for consumables and training etc.

The aim was to increase the through-put rate of composite manufacturing by introducing automation technologies to meet automotive and aerospace demands. A bespoke robotic end-effector and relevant tooling was designed and developed to facilitate fully automation process. A Fanuc robot was programmed to pick the pre-cut prepreg plies, put them on the mould in a precise location and to perform in-situ hot press operation. Thereafter, transfer the component for the minor trimming operation and finally dislodge the finished component in the bin for quality check.
