I am currently working as Assistant Professor in Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE) at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK Institute) and have been at this post since August 2018.
Served as Graduate Researcher (2 years) at Evolutionary Biology Center (EBC) in Uppsala University (UU), Uppsala, Sweden.
Conducted research in Simon Whelan's group on Multiple Sequence Alignment (MSA).
Helped organize departmental chores such as Departmental Days and participated in Wednesday morning seminars, etc.
Served as Lecturer (1 year 2 months) at COMSATS Institute of Information and Technology (now COMSATS University Islamabad).
Conducted courses Bioinformatics 1 (Now called Introduction to Bioinformatics), and Bioinformatics 3 (Now called Structural and Functional Bioinformatics ).
Served as Computer Engineer (9 months) at Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE) in Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), Topi.
Assisted in undergraduate courses Introduction to Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Signal Processing and Databases.
Conducted labs for Artificial Intelligence teaching PROLOG, Databases and Data Structures.
Served as Quality Assurance Engineer (5 months) at EnterpriseDB, Islamabad.
Worked in the Connectors team of Quality Management Group at EnterpriseDB.
Assured the correct retrieval and insertion of data using all or some of EnterpriseDB features such as procedures, functions, DML, DDL, transactions and Ref-cursors.
Worked with intermediate drivers such as ODBC, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC).
I pursued my Ph.D. degree in Computer Science with specialization in Computational Biology from School of Computer Science and Communication (CSC) (now renamed to School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science) at Kungliga Tekniska Hogskolan (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden under the supervision of Docent Lars Arvestad. During my Doctoral studies, my main interests were Genetics, Software development, Statistical methods in Computer Science, and Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Biology in general. These topics were reflected in my Doctoral thesis titled "From genomes to post-processing of Bayesian inference of phylogeny", which contained 5 manuscripts (4 published in ISI indexed journals) on these topics.
I completed my M.S. degree in Information Technology with specialization in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology from Department of Mathematical Sciences at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. My main interests during this time were development of algorithms, statistics and pattern matching techniques in AI, which were reflected in my masters thesis "Determining the relationship between gene class network graph and gene age" under the supervision of Docent Torbjorn Lundh. Thereafter, in continuation of my studies, I actively looked for Doctorate opportunities in Big data, pattern matching, programming and algorithm development.
I completed my B.S. degree in Computer Systems Engineering from Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering (FCSE) at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI), Topi, Pakistan. During my bachelors, my main interests were artificial intelligence, in particular latest techniques in pattern matching such as artificial neural networks (ANN) as shown by my Bachelors thesis "Lip synchronization with speech" under the supervision of Dr. Sajid Qamar and Mr. (now Dr.) Kashif Mehmood Rajpoot using techniques from Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and visualization techniques from computer graphics (CG). Due to my interest in pattern matching and Artificial intelligence, I sought admission in Bioinformatics - an applied field and a mixture of Computer Science, Statistics and Biology.
