My research focuses on secondary literacy educator identity development, literacy educator advocacy, inclusive literature, literacy across the content areas, youth community cultural wealth, and Critical Race English Education. Below is a list of publications and presentations since my reappointment in September 2022. To view additional publications prior to my appointment, please go to the Curriculum Vitae page.
I have two research projects under work. The first is a qualitative research study with Dr. Tadayuki Suzuki titled “Examining School District Policies for Book Challenges and Concerns from Teachers and Librarians for Future Education." This study was approved by the SUNY Cortland Institutional Review Board on June 30, 2023. Dr. Suzuki and I have collected data from 6 teachers/librarians so far and are analyzing and coding the data currently. We submitted a proposal to present our initial findings at the 2024 National Council of Teachers of English Convention in Boston, MA in November 2024.
The second qualitative study was approved by the SUNY Cortland Institutional Review Board on November 28, 2023 and is titled “From Ally to Abolitionist: (Re)viewing the Enactment of Critical Race English Education with Youth. This study is a follow-up study with the participants from my 2022 dissertation. I have recruited 8 participants so far and am set to collect interview data in the next few months.
