George Gomez, Ph. D.

I am a medical writer working from home. Please see my LinkedIn profile for more information.

I was born and bred in Manila, Philippines, and did my undergraduate studies at the University of the Philippines. I came to the United States for graduate school in 1989 as a Presidential University Graduate Fellow at the Boston University Marine Program.

I did my post-doctoral training (1994-1997) and took a subsequent position as a research associate (1997-2002) at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia, PA.

I was a faculty member in the Biology Department of the University of Scranton from 2002-2019. I served as core faculty for Neuroscience, Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology (BCMB), and Asian Studies. From 2008 through 2012, I also served as the Project Shepherd for the construction of the Loyola Science Center.

In my time as a university professor, I worked with 71 undergraduate researchers, 37 of which were in the Honors Program. We collaborated on 29 conference presentations and 11 primary literature manuscripts (with 15 student co-authors). This productivity was achieved with very little financial support, requiring a high level of creativity and savvy resource management.

Students from my laboratory have gone on to health professional programs (medical, dental, and veterinary schools), top-tier Ph.D. programs, or to employment in the sciences.
