MARCH 6, Friday: Today, students finished The Godfather, discussing attributes that aid it in standing the test of time, as well as why it's considered one of the greatest films of all-time.
In addition, we completed a discussion of lenses as they apply to the film, as well as discussed the proper way to write thematic statements (i.e., a theme is not "family," but a theme could be "when family is threatened, people will do whatever it takes to protect the people they love.").

JANUARY 7, Tuesday: Welcome back, and I'm so sorry I'm not in class today! Upon my return, we will discuss, in-depth, The Hays Code and the MPAA, as well as how this impacted film moving forward.
1. Access this documentary and skip to the 5 min. 50 second mark.
2. Begin viewing, taking bullet-point notes on a sheet of paper based upon ideas or concepts you didn't know or find interesting -- even though you are in small groups, you will each turn in your own notes at the end of class today.

OCTOBER 2, Wednesday: HAPPY SPOOKY MONTH! Today, students interpreted the shift from the silent era of film into talking pictures or "talkies" of the 1930's (the Golden Age). Students viewed the Marx Bros' 1933 film Duck Soup and analyzed how talking in film could enhance the comedic elements, as well as how the film could be considered political satire.

SEPTEMBER 30, Monday: Hi, all! Unfortunately, I'm out one more day dealing with some issues that arose at home during my trip. That said, this week, we will transition from silent films and into our second unit, where we will discuss "talkies" or talking films and the Golden Age of Cinema. Here's what I'd like you to do today...
1. Please turn in your journals if you haven't! Due by midnight unless you've spoken to me prior about an extension due to one of the field trips that occurred at the end of last week.
2. Please view this documentary about the transition from silent films to "talkies" and take at least TEN notes on ideas that you find to be relevant or important... (Keep in mind that Keaton's career died shortly after silent film did.) Turn in at the end of class.

AUGUST 22, Thursday: Today, we finished Georges Méliès "A Trip to the Moon," discussing the artistic attributes of the film. In addition, we created a social contract and went over the syllabus and honors contracts.
