COLLEGE Applications
There are several ways to apply to colleges. You can apply using The Common Application, The Common Black College Application, The SUNY Application, The CUNY Application, On Each Specific School's Website, and The Coalition Application.
Many students use The Common Application because it has access to the most amount of schools.
Check below for how to sign up and fill out each of these applications!
The common application

SIGNING UP FOR THE COMMON APPLICATION:
Enter commonapp.org into google.
In the top right corner, you will click create an account.
On the next page, you are going to click FIRST YEAR STUDENT.
Here you will create your account. Enter all your information and create a password.
DASHBOARD:
When you first log in it will take you to your dashboard. This is where your list of colleges will show up when you decide which colleges you want to apply to.
STEP 1: PROFILE
Click on the Common App tab. This is where you will enter your information for your application. Let's start with the profile section. Any question with an asterisk (*) is required. Make sure all those fields are filled out. When you have come to the end of a section, click continue. Once you move on, the previous section should have a green check mark. if it does not, that means you are missing some information. The last question in this section is about fee waivers, if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, click yes.
STEP 2: FAMILY
The next section is the family section. Any question with an asterisk (*) is required. Make sure all those fields are filled out. These questions are going to be asking about your household (parent/guardians, siblings etc). When you have come to the end of a section, click continue. Try to fill out as much information as you know (even if it is not required).
STEP 3: EDUCATION
The next section is the education section. The section is one of the more important sections as it tells the colleges about Deer Park and your grades/courses. Any question with an asterisk (*) is required. Make sure all those fields are filled out. When you have come to the end of a section, click continue. For the Grades section, to find your GPA, Rank and Class Size please refer to your transcript (ask your counselor for a copy) or check Naviance. Class size is 261.
STEP 4: TESTING
The next section is the testing section. Any question with an asterisk (*) is required. This is where you can self-report your scores (SAT/ACT/AP, ETC). You will still need to officially send these scores to colleges through College Board later.
STEP 5: ACTIVITIES
The next section is the activities section. This section is your resume. You are able to submit up to 10 activities and it is recommended to try and fill all 10 slots. Use your top 10 best activities/athletics/volunteer work ETC !

SIGNING UP FOR THE SUNY APPLICATION:
Access the SUNY Online Application: Visit www.suny.edu/student to apply on-line.
Click Apply Now.
If it is your first time logging onto the website, click Create an Account. You will be prompted to register for a free applySUNY account.
Since this will be your first time logging in you will need to create a username. (You will need to use your PERSONAL email address.) Make note of your username and password immediately and write it down or keep track of it somewhere!
Click sign-up!
PRELIMINARY QUESTIONS:
Pay attention to the questions that may help you receive more financial aid.
Question: Are you a U.S. citizen? Mark Yes (if you are)
Question: Will you be a freshman or a transfer student? Freshman (Fall 2023)
Are you applying for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)?
If yes, you will be prompted to answer questions about household size and family income. (See your Family Income Form if you are not sure of the income range ; Check google (EOP Requirements) to find out if you qualify or speak to your Guidance Counselor)
ABOUT ME
Make sure your name is spelled correctly and you capitalize the first letter of your first and last name!
The felony question applies if you have been convicted as an adult. If you have been adjudicated as having juvenile delinquent or youthful offender status, you are required to respond to the felony question by indicating a response of no.

The sUFFOLK COMMUNITY COLLEGE application
Visit sunysuffolk.edu/apply
Hover over Apply and select Apply Now
Select New Student Application
Click on Create an Account (Under First Time Users)
Enter your Personal Email, First Name, Last Name, and Birthdate
You will receive a PIN number via your personal email, enter it into the temporary PIN field
Create a 12+ character password
When you enter your academic program, the campus(es) at which the program is offered will be available under "Campus Option"
Start the application - Enter all information that is required (anything with a red asterisk)
If you qualify for Free & Reduced Lunch - Check That Box To Waive The Application Fee
If you don't qualify for F&RL; A processing fee is required, you can pay with a credit card/debit card, or checking account
Congratulations! You have applied to Suffolk County Community College
If you Save your application to come back to Later you will receive reminder emails to complete your application.
The common Black College application
Instructions to complete the Common Black College Application (CBCA)
Click on Log In to complete the CBCA. Once your application is submitted and the application fee is paid, it will be made available to all Member Institutions. The $20 application fee is non-refundable.
Once your application has been submitted, click on the PayPal link to pay the $20 application fee.
You are not required to have a PayPal Account to complete the CBCA. You can use a debit or credit card to make the payment as a Guest on PayPal.
You can also mail a money order in the amount of $20 to:

Fee Waiver
You are not able to use a fee waiver to complete the CBCA because you are applying to all Member Institutions for only $20. The $20 application fee is non-refundable. Students can upload their test scores in the Student Dashboard. If you have not taken the test, you can still complete the CBCA.
Transcript & Test Score Upload by School Counselor / Student
School Counselor
Your School Counselor must create an account to upload your official transcript in the School Counselor Dashboard. If your Counselor did not receive an email requesting them to upload your transcript, please have them go to https://commonblackcollegeapp.com and click on High School Counselor to create an account and upload your transcript.
Test Scores
Students can upload their test scores in the Student Dashboard. Your application may not be processed by our Member Institutions if your test scores and transcript have not been uploaded to the Student Dashboard. (Some Member Institutions are test optional. Please contact the college(s) you are interested in attending to inquire.) Please do not mail, email or fax your transcript or test scores to our office.
Essay and Recommendations
Please send your essay and recommendations to all of the colleges you are interested in attending. We encourage you to visit the websites of those colleges to get the essay topic.
Provide Additional Information On College Platforms
You Have College Credits
If you are a high school student and you have college credits, please be sure to provide that information to all the Common Black College Application Member Institutions you are interested in attending.
