Johnny Wayne (Clint Browning) is an ex-racer who serves 5 years in prison after crippling a young boy during an illegal street race in Los Angeles. Wayne, having been traumatised by the events, vows to never race again, and is soon released as a reformed citizen.Whilst Johnny attempts to restore his life and become an honest, hardworking member of society, his parole officer has other plans for him. Johnny finds himself being blackmailed into street racing by his parole officer and the taunts of his former street racing associates. Johnny is given a job at a wrecking yard, owned by Red. Johnny and Red get off to a rocky start but end up becoming friends. Red teaches Johnny how to improve his racing skill. Johnny is assigned to volunteer community service as part of his parole and he winds up working at a rehabilitation facility where a boy, Danny/Daniel (Connor Herlong), crippled 5 years earlier in a car accident, gets his physical therapy as he tries to relearn to walk. Danny and his older sister take a liking to Johnny. Johnny inspires Danny to give maximum effort to his physical therapy and Danny progresses. Johnny slowly comes to the realization that Danny is the boy he crippled in the wreck he caused 5 years earlier but does not know how to tell Danny and his sister. Danny's father sees Johnny at the rehabilitation facility, goes ballistic and reveals the truth to all. Danny's sister confronts Johnny about the hardship he has placed on Danny and his family, who struggle to make ends meet with staggering medical bills. Johnny ends up racing his former friend/now rival Mickey Styles (Jason Ellefson) for the title of the ultimate street racer of Los Angeles and $10k. The crooked parole officer bets against Johnny and instructs Johnny to lose or he will violate his parole and harm Danny and his family. Johnny wins the race and $10k which he donates to Danny. The crooked parole officer gets his just reward when he is hit by street racers and killed.

According to an arrest report, the incident began around 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a police sergeant, who was working an intersection takeover detail in the area of Northwest 61st street and Northwest 17th Avenue, saw Lawson driving a red Dodge Charger.

In a state law enacted in 2022, it is illegal to participate in street racing. That includes takeovers, drag racing, donuts, burnouts, wheelies, drifting and other related activities that can create unsafe roadways. Besides jail time, drivers can have their license revoked and face fines upwards of $5,000.

Meanwhile, although Pablo says he was just a spectator this past Sunday, the young man in his twenties has been street racing for four years. And by not having a dedicated place, Pablo says he is left with no option but to hit the city streets.

If you were scratching your head, looking for ideas for your thinly veiled Mario Kart clone back in the early 90s, you could do worse than to cast your eye over the videogame charts where Street Fighter 2 was busy selling approximately a quintillion copies. That's the only explanation for the existence of Street Racer, a game which had about as much in common with Fast and Furious style illegal street racing as, well, the recent Fast and Furious movies.

Each of the colourful cast of racers had unique special moves as well, whether that was blasting other racers into the weeds with a pair of concealed bullhorns, releasing an angry spectre to terrify them off the road or converting the car into a World War I triplane and temporarily taking to the skies. What's more, up to four players could compete at once in the split screen mode, though this being the 1990s that meant each player ended up with only a handful of fist-sized pixels with which to discern what was going on.

The fact they can render 4 screens at once with full mode 7 tracks and all the other racers and parallax backgrounds, etc, boggles my mind. And, from what I can find out, this game isn't using an enhancement chip in the cart. The mind utterly boggles.

Metropolis Street Racer is most definitely not for the quick-fix gamer, however if you're out for a challenge and you haven't yet found a racer to steal your heart (and let's face it, there isn't one that could steal it better than this) then you'd be a fool to miss out on the opportunity to own possibly the best driving game ever made.

Carlos Lee Hill Jr., 20, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Butte County Superior Court to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, as well as an additional charge of street racing causing serious injury or death.

According to police, the driver of an SUV was street racing and blew through a light at the intersection. The SUV slammed into the back of a four-door sedan and that car hit two other vehicles sitting at the stop light on Singleton.

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday responded to a reported street racing intersection takeover at South Old Nogales Highway and South Nogales Highway, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said Tuesday in a news release.

Big Willie inspired songs, including this one from a 1977 B-movie he appeared in: "Joyride to Nowhere." The song, "Run Whatcha Brung," echoes Willie's motto. It means that at a street race or a drag strip, all are welcome.

But racial strife was festering in Willie's hometown. He enrolled at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, and before long, his car was vandalized in an attack by white people angry over the school's recent integration, according to an interview he gave on the TV show "Car Crazy." His family feared for his safety and sent Willie to L.A. in 1960. Soon, he hooked up with some local racers. Willie explained how it came to pass: "I started working at the body shop and ... two Jewish street racers that lived next door to the body shop, they said, 'Willie, how would you like to go to the street races?'"

The 20 mile ride went well, but I am not used to the extremely closed position of this bike. That closed position (high BB and upright seat angle) is why I haven't felt comfortable on the Cuda-W streamliner. I'm used to riding the NoCom, which has a very open position (laid back seat and relatively low BB). Now that this bike is rideable, I will be training in the streamliner position, so it should feel just like home when I race the streamliner.5/25/09

I had another ride this weekend. I still don't feel at home on this bike, but by the middle of July I should be right at home!5/27/09

Just to be sure, I photoshopped myself onto the Cuda-W. Yup, that's the position that fits in the 'liner!6/07/09

I took the bike all apart, painted the frame and the brackets gloss black and re-assembled it. I am beginning to get used to this position, today's ride went well, and I felt like I had some power. I was able to crank up some hills. I had some doubts about the functionality of the front suspension fork as it didn't compress very easily (or sometimes at all!) but it seems to be loosening up a bit. It's still pretty sticky but at least it's doing something.10/25/09

I discovered that I don't like the Turner seat. It was not comfortable for me, and was flexy, so I put my old streetracer mesh seat on it.This of course meant that I had to make new brackets to hold the seat on.As I was taking a picture of the bike I noticed the old streetracer tailbox. Because this bike has such an upright position, the tailbox will do a lot of good. The tailbox attaches easily to the seat with plastic coated copper wire intended for house wiring.9/23/2010

I have not been riding this bike. Apparently my body doesn't like the relatively closed riding position for long periods of time. In addition the bike does not handle as well as it could. Why? I think it's because the rear wheel is too far forward. This year I rebuilt two of my other bikes to move the rear axle behind my head, and it really improved their handling.. As you can see here, the rear axle is right at my head. Moving the rear wheel back 6" would make a big difference.12/05/2010

Rather than hack the bike up again, I decided to use the Bacchetta bars that I bought for the Stickbike project on this bike. Many riders on Bacchetta's stick bikes also end up with their head behind the hear axle, which is why they use wide handbars to compensate for the handling issues. The Bacchetta bars look nice and lower my hands, which should solve the numb hand issue I was experiencing with the high bars I was using. The wide bars will make it handle better too.9/21/2013

Three years later. This picture shows the brazons around the headtube. These are the Terracycle riser bars with Bacchetta handlebarsHere's the front suspension fork and brake. Here's the rear wheel. Back to the WISIL projects page

The Task Force targeted a known strip of highway popular with illegal street racing enthusiasts which has historically been a problem in the Sylmar and Sun Valley areas. In order to prevent and deter this illegal and dangerous activity, the Task Force convenes to use statutes designed to facilitate arrests, citations, and confiscation of cars. Specifically, officers arrested illegal street racers [drivers] for violation of Vehicle Code Section 23109(a) [engaging in a speed contest], and illegal street racing starters for violation of Section 23109(b) [aiding in a speed contest]. Spectators were cited for violation of Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) Section 47.15 and juveniles were cited for curfew violations (LAMC Section 45.03).

And, although it has since morphed to become less about cars and more about crazy international heists that stretch the boundaries of plausibility, the first film had its roots planted deep in the very real and very illegal culture of underground street racing.

Li became obsessed with Japanese import cars and street-racing culture after visiting the Eastern Autosports shop in Queens. Having grown up without a car in the centre of NYC, he had never seen anything like it and was instantly hooked. ff782bc1db
