Developers can use familiar Visual Studio tools for database development. Tools such as: code navigation, IntelliSense, language support that parallels what is available for C# and Visual Basic, platform-specific validation, debugging, and declarative editing in the Transact-SQL editor. SSDT also provides a visual Table Designer for creating and editing tables in either database projects or connected database instances. While you are working on your database projects in a team-based environment, you can use version control for all the files. When it's time to publish your project, you can publish to all supported SQL platforms; including SQL Database and SQL Server. SSDT platform validation capability ensures that your scripts work on the target you specify.

SQL server itself will limit what you can do based on the version. For example, if you're connecting to SQL Server Express, then SSRS will only connect to itself or other SQL Servers. SQL Server Standard's SSRS will allow the use of data sources with generic ODBC drivers. This has nothing to do with which version of Visual Studio you're using, it's built into SQL Server itself.

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A!

The standard version is no problem. As TOM said, > The developer tools are not licensed based on the server you are connecting too.

The enterprise you are looking at does not seem to be an enterprise version, but an organization.

Your question is about the license of Visual Studio, you can ask under this link. The forum is more about technical discussions.

In this article, we are going to learn how we can install and configure the SSDT 2017 on Windows 10. The SQL Server data tools 2017 (SSDT 2017) is a development tool used for database development, SQL Server analysis service data models, SQL Server report service reports, and Integration service packages.

The first screen does not have any information about the SQL Server data tools. You can see the release number on top of the screen. There are a few links are provided that navigates to the License terms and Privacy statement. You can review them and click on Next.

If you have a visual studio subscription, you can sign in to the Visual Studio account. You can create a new visual studio account by clicking on Create one link. We do not have the visual studio subscriptions, so click on Not now, maybe later link.

In this article, I have explained how to install SQL Server data tools 2017. Additionally, we created a simple SSIS package that shrinks the adventureworks2017 database. We also covered the step-by-step deployment process of the SQL Server integration package.

SSDT now includes a single environment hosted in Visual Studio, as well as database tools tailored to the development process. As a result, you can now design and construct databases without switching back and forth between Visual Studio and other tools. The tool allows you to concentrate on the design while it takes care of developing the necessary change scripts to securely apply your design to a real-world database.

Hevo Data is a No-Code Data Pipeline that offers a faster way to move data from 150+ Data Integrations including SQL Server, and other 40+ Free Sources, into your Data Warehouse to be visualized in a BI tool. Hevo is fully automated and hence does not require you to code. With just a few clicks, connect any data source to SQL Server and watch your data load in real-time. Experience a hassle-free, zero-maintenance data load with Hevo.

Do you work with a database as part of your development tasks? This course covers the data tools available for developers within Visual Studio. These tools, called SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) allow you to perform database tasks, create and manage database scripts, and easily deploy database changes all from within Visual Studio. Enjoy!

What was previously available as an add-in for Visual Studio 2010 and updated for Visual Studio 2012, the database developer toolset, is now an integrated feature of both Visual Studio 2012 and 2013. Along with being integrated in the full Visual Studio SKUs, database developers without Visual Studio can install them for free as standalone tools also. These tools provide end-to-end support for building and managing Windows Azure SQL Databases and SQL Server databases. They provide SQL Server version-specific validation. The tools include live connected tools and designers, and the ability to create database projects that integrate with Visual Studio source control (including Team Foundation Server) for full schema development, debugging, database migrations and overall database lifecycle management. Over the past year, new features have been added including:

We are hard at work finishing up our complete Visual Studio tooling for SQL Server 2014. Both the tools integrated with Visual Studio 2012 and 2013 and the BI tools have pre-releases available for SQL Server 2014 already. At commercial release of SQL Server 2014, we plan to also commercially release updates to the database developer and BI tools for the commercial release of SQL Server 2014.

I am using visual studio 2013 express for the web. I am also using Microsoft sql 2014. Does anyone know of a way to support full functionality of Microsoft SQL 2014 inside VS 2013. For example, when creating a gridview and binding it to a SQL 2014 table,

the ability to update, delete, and edit are not supported. Please help. I have something due to a customer tomorrow and will have to resort to the old fashion brute programming. Yuck.

The new-edge tools have taken over the IT space like a storm. Many tools bring revolutionary changes and one of them is SQL. SQL Server data tools include a Schema Compare utility which is used to develop and compare different databases. For a software development company, there are many scenarios where an SQL programmer or database administrator needs to compare two databases. There are many tools available for the comparison of schema & data of the production database.

Through this blog, we hope, we were able to elucidate users on Microsoft SQL Server Data tools and their comprehensive usage. This step-by-step guide will help you compare the schema, strings & data of two different databases. It is very helpful for SQL developers & database administrators for managing databases in different situations.

Note: refer to the Microsoft web documentation, to see if the SSDT extensions have been released for higher version of Visual Studio

This NuGet package contains all the required components to build and publish sqlproj project. This package allows to users to create local build agent without installing visual studio and enables continuous integration and continuous deployment scenarios.

SSDT transforms database development by introducing a ubiquitous, declarative model that spans all the phases of database development inside Visual Studio. You can use SSDT Transact-SQL design capabilities to build, debug, maintain, and refactor databases. You can work with a database project, or directly with a connected database instance on or off-premise.

SSDT provides the capability to use Visual Studio IDE itself for database design, development, debugging and testing for developers with limited or no access to a live (production) database. Developers can create a SQL Server Database Project in the SSDT and without being connected to any live SQL Server instance they can design and develop their database code. SSDT includes a visual Table Designer for creating and editing tables in either database projects or connected SQL Server instances. Right within the IDE, you can use version control for all of the files if you are working in a team-based environment. Once you are done with your database development, you can publish your project to all of the supported SQL platforms, including SQL Azure.

For debugging your code in the SQL Server Database project (or in disconnected mode), SSDT includes a local on-demand server instance, called SQL Server Express Local Database Runtime, which gets activated when you start debugging your code in the SQL Server Database project and it comes in handy for developers who have limited or no access to production (live) databases. Acting as sandbox environment, this local instance allows for building, testing and debugging your database code in the database project. SQL Server Express Local Database Runtime is independent of any of your installed SQL Server instances, and is not accessible outside SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). In addition, when you are developing a database code for SQL Azure, you can utilize the convenience provided by this local server (SQL Server Express Local Database Runtime, which comes with SSDT) to develop and test your database project locally, before deploying it to the cloud. You can learn more about this here.

Microsoft SQL Server is an RDBMS (relational database management system) for managing and storing information, transaction processing, and business intelligence. Managing a database on SQL Server or moving data to and from the platform can be challenging at the best of times. However, various SQL Server data tools can streamline these processes and improve scalability, functionality, and features.
