Hell Zone is a completely corrupted, monstrous shell of Green Hill Zone from Sonic the Hedgehog 1. @Thomystic Yes I honestly think that's a factor. I'm the biggest Sonic apologist in the world but I do think that would have been a better price point so people would be a little kinder to it. That said, several retailers obviously agree as thats what they are selling it for, if you shop around. For example, in the UK (& europe?) Hit has it 39.85 with free delivery, physical, for all consoles.

Mario is slightly older than sonic, yet within those same span of years, Mario has constantly had stream of high marks from critics with audiences for the vast majority of the time agreeing.

While i did enjoy the advance and rush games they definitely felt very different to play with an emphasis more on the speedy side of things and i felt sonics movement didnt carry as much momentum making the slower parts lack the "flow" mentioned earlier, not to say they were bad games, far from it, they just definitely felt different.

for me with a lot of previous sonic games i ended up double dipping on the switch version (as you may tell from that ramble in the message above im a series fan) i do tend to get more playtime out of the switch versions due to being able to play while relaxing on the sofa/bed.

I think the reviewers have factored in the flawed co-op and flawed chaos emerald powers against the good, core single player game. Shame as it makes it seem a worse game than it is. Perhaps SEGA should have made things simple for this Sonic outing rather than overthink mechanics through in fresh ideas. I can't imagine co-op is fun in a fast paced sonic game other than to laugh at ones failures, lol.

The core problem here, is Sonic. The character himself can easily outrun the rest of the cast. It's hard to balance a co-op system around him. Sonic's greatest asset is also his greatest hindrance. Sonic works best when it's just a single player experience. Sega has to constantly make levels designed around high momentum.

There are several cool new features this time around, but the feature I want to make sure people are aware of is the special new portals that only appear while in a multiplayer game. We thought they would make it more convenient to access the handful of ringslinger and circuit maps included. They might make for a nice break between co-op levels.
