PowerShell originated as a proprietary offering that was only available on Windows. Today, PowerShell is available by default on most recent Windows systems; simply type "powershell" into the Windows search bar to locate the PowerShell app. In 2016, Microsoft open sourced PowerShell and made it available on Linux and macOS.

PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment (ISE), introduced by Microsoft in PowerShell version 2.0, is a PowerShell host application used to write, test and debug scripts or write commands in a Windows GUI. To access the ISE, click Start, select Windows PowerShell and choose Windows PowerShell ISE. As an alternative, simply type powershell_ise.exe in the command shell or Windows Run box.

Any computer running Windows 10 or later already has PowerShell installed by default. PowerShell can be invoked simply by typing "powershell" into the Search bar and selecting the PowerShell app from the resulting search list. Similarly, PowerShell can be invoked by entering powershell.exe in the Run dialog.

PowerShell is a cross-platform command line and scripting utility from Microsoft. Use this tag for questions about writing and executing PowerShell scripts ONLY. Programming questions specific to the cross-platform version PowerShell Core (Windows, macOS, and Linux) should be tagged [powershell-core]. Questions about system administration should be asked on Super User or Server Fault.

I've heard that Microsoft is phasing out Powershell in favor of Powershell Core. there will be no more versions or features of the existing Powershell and all new development will gear towards Powershell Core / 6 and above. One thing I found is that they are not using Snapins in the new powershell. Snapins are supposed to be replaced by modules. Does anyone know if this is something that Citrix is working on?

I'm not a Citrix Cloud Customer but a Citrix on Premise. I don't have access to the REST API but i would love to have access to another way (a RESTful API) than the snap-ins to execute actions on CVAD than powershell.

This is interesting. Can you please share me how to host remote PowerShell 5 session on brokers from powershell core. Any sample code using C# will be highly appreciated. I have been struggling almost an year to execute citrix commands from my dot net core project. Any help will be appreciated.

I am in the process of removing powershell for standard users. I have put a GPO in place that will not allow powershell to be run from explorer. Also, this makes it so you cannot right click on the start bar and select run powershell. We have CMD turned off via GPO as well. You cannot launch CMD then powershell.

Currently (using a combination of the run command, bat files, and the output tool) am able to create these folders dynamically, parse the rows as individual files, then zip them. However, I am running into an issue getting the powershell portion to work. After the folders are created but before they are zipped, I wrote a Powershell script that simply finds each child folder in the output directory and copies 6 files to each existing folder. Here is a quick snap of how it fits in my workflow:

Here is an older thread about running powershell from Alteryx. This was written by the great and powerful @Ozzie whom we are fortunate to still have around. The part that stands out to me is at the beginning where it says you need to have "scripting enabled". If that doesn't work, maybe we can wrangle Ozymandias in and figure it out.

PowerShell commands/scripts can also be executed without directly invoking the powershell.exe binary through interfaces to PowerShell's underlying System.Management.Automation assembly DLL exposed through the .NET framework and Windows Common Language Interface (CLI).[3][4][5]

RogueRobin uses a command prompt to run a PowerShell script from Excel.[72] To assist in establishing persistence, RogueRobin creates %APPDATA%\OneDrive.bat and saves the following string to it:powershell.exe -WindowStyle Hidden -exec bypass -File "%APPDATA%\OneDrive.ps1".[209][72]

Puppet provides a built-in exec type that is capable of executing commands. This module adds a powershell and pwsh provider to the exec type, which enables exec parameters, listed below. This module is particularly helpful if you need to run PowerShell commands but don't know how PowerShell is executed, because you can run PowerShell commands in Puppet without the module.

The powershell provider requires you install Windows PowerShell and have powershell.exe available in the system PATH. Note that most Windows operating systems already have Windows PowerShell installed. 17dc91bb1f
