First of all my apologies I suppose at the age of 78 I can be forgiven for not understanding drop box. I do however love technology and use Adobe Premier Pro, After effects and Photoshop without problems. I also built my own computer 4 years ago.

I hope you good people on this forum can tell me what I am doing wrong. I have 3 computers for simplicity I will call them computer A B and C. If I download folders and files from my main computer A to drop box it not only downloads them to drop box but it also writes the files to my c drives on computers B and C which of course soon fills the drives. I am sure this never used to happen a year or so ago.

That's the main purpose of Dropbox; to sync files from one computer to your account online, and to any other computer where you've installed the Dropbox application. The Dropbox folder on all of your computers is just a regular folder like any other. It exists on your local drive, taking up space. Anything you place in the folder exists on your local drive, as well as in your account online. If you install Dropbox on other computers, the files in your account will sync down to the Dropbox folder on those computers as well. Make a change to a file within the Dropbox folder on any computer, and it syncs to all of your other computers.

Smart Sync should be available to you as it's available on any paid plan. Smart Sync is used to mark files and folders as Online-only so they appear on your computer without taking up space. When you try to use such a file, it's downloaded back to your computer for you.

Another option is Selective Sync, which is used to remove the local copy of a folder from your computer. Go into Selective Sync settings and uncheck a folder, and it's removed from your local drive but will remain in your account online. Just make sure your files are fully synced and Dropbox shows "Up-to-date" before you uncheck any folders.

As a first step, I need to get my files from Computer #1/Dropbox onto Computer #2. I have followed the instructions in "Using Dropbox to migrate files from one computer to another" ( -web/move-to-new-computer), i.e. - install Dropbox on new computer, sign in to Dropbox desktop app with the same Dropbox account on both computers, etc.

Hover your mouse cursor over the Dropbox icon in the system tray (Windows) or menu bar (Mac) and a hover text popup will appear showing the status of Dropbox.

Also, on the same icon, left-click it, then click the gear icon and select Preferences. Do this on both computers and verify that the email address listed on each one is the same. If they're not, you're signed in to two different Dropbox accounts and that's why files on computer 1 aren't syncing to computer 2.

One thing to check first is that you are actively running the desktop app on both computers and it is showing "Up to date" to be fully synced and able to access all of your files. When you first link a new computer to your account ( by downloading, installing and logging into the desktop app) the app should start syncing changes and indexing your files - this could take some time but the files will eventually sync to your computer. Once the app's icon shows "Up to date" you should be able to access your files normally.

I am currenlty running into a problem where all of my dropbox files are being held in both dropbox.com and on my computer. As of now i have it set up where i can do to my documents and select dropbox and ADD or Remove files there as well as edit. It functions just as any folder.

I am wanting to know how I can choose what is stored on my computer and what is stored in the cloud. My family photos are taking up 30GB's of space on my computer and are also in dropbox. Is there are way to have them only be thumbnails on my computer unless I clikc on them?

If you have Basic or Plus, you can use Selective Sync to remove the local copy of a folder from your computer, leaving it in your account online, but it would only be accessible through the Dropbox website at that point.

You can download files and folders from Microsoft OneDrive, or from SharePoint in Microsoft 365, SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, or SharePoint Server 2019 to your computer with just a few clicks.

If your browser prompts you, choose Save or Save As and browse to the location where you want to save the download. (Some browsers just start saving right away to a Downloads folder on your computer.)

If you select multiple files or folders and then select Download from Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint in Microsoft 365, or from SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, your browser will start downloading a .zip file containing all the files and folders you selected. If you're in a folder and you select Download without selecting any files or folders, your browser will begin downloading all contents of the folder.

On a mobile device, you can make files available offline, which is similar to downloading files. From the OneDrive app in iOS, Android, or Windows 10 phone, look for the Offline icon ( for Android or iOS, or for Windows mobile devices).

Yeah I had this problem too. The only way to fix it is to not let the computer go to sleep (even if the screen is off, can't remember how to, sorry) , or get a browser that supports suspended downloads. Vivaldi worked for me last time.

When a computer goes to sleep, the computer enters a low power state, only allowing enough power to go the RAM to keep its contents alive. Unfortunately in most cases that also means that the power to the network cards is dropped, causing the system to go to sleep.

TODO DONE: I realise that it is better to sense downloads by checking the size of the downloads folder rather than using ifstat. This is because if your watching a video from your browser, eg. Youtube, the program will think you are downloading a file when you aren't.

The program still works, but you cannot trigger sleep manually after a "download"(/watching a YouTube Video) until SLEEP_TIME as elapsed. Then your computer will sleep afterwards if configured to do so in Ubuntu settings.

Now you can go into the regular systems settings, and set your desired sleep settings like normal. This script does not interfere with those settings, and your computer will sleep like normal, but not during a download.

Hi, I have thousands of .ai photos (in folders) stored on Creative Cloud in "Your Files"-->"Cloud Documents". All I want to do is have those photos downloaded to my desktop computer without having to open each one and doing File-->Save As. I know that this is possible through the "Synced files" tab option, but I cannot figure out how to move the folders/pictures from "Cloud Documents" to "Synced files".

Thanks for reaching out. As suggested by Doug and Ton, you may download the Cloud Documents from the Adobe Creative Cloud application installed on your computer under the Files tab by CTRL+Clicking multiple files and then right-clicking to download to a folder.

Please note that this will not work with Folders.

Downloading large files can take up a lot of memory and processing power, causing your computer to slow down. Additionally, if the downloaded file contains software that runs in the background, it can also impact the speed of your computer.

To prevent your computer from slowing down or running out of storage space when downloading files, you can regularly clean up your hard drive by deleting unnecessary files and programs. You can also use external storage devices to store large files instead of keeping them on your computer.

There is no specific limit to the number of files you can download without affecting your computer's performance. It depends on the size of the files and the capabilities of your computer. However, it is recommended to regularly clean up your downloaded files to avoid any negative impact on your computer's performance.

I have purchased a newer MacBookPro. 2020. I don't have the same USB as I did on my 2013 Mac. I'm told I have to have a WiFi connecter? Anyone else have trouble downloading pictures because USB on computers has changed? So frustrating. Help! 0852c4b9a8
