Citing the Code
All charges have their maximum sentence included in the notes. Officers may choose in all cases whether to sentence offenders for this maximum sentence for each charge or to give a lesser sentence under their own discretion. A few charges below include conditions in which maximum sentence must be given. Under no circumstances can an officer serve a higher sentence than the stated maximum for all charges.
Always Refer to Title 12. Sentencing Enhancements and Title 13. Code Policy for instructions on how to apply charges in cases of Conspiracy, Attempt, Accessory After the Fact, etc.
For consistency and to allow ease of understanding, please refer to penal code entries in one of three ways:
With the full title, underlined, prefix first. For example, (1)01. Intimidation or (10)01. Attempt
With the prefix (x)xx. For example, (1)01. or (10)01.
With the shortening code PCX-XX. For example, PC1-01 or PC10-01
