* The Friends' Concert is an exclusive event for our Friends and their guests, and takes place a couple of weeks after our spring concert. It is one of the highlights of the orchestra's year (and hopefully the Friends'!) and is the orchestra's chance to show appreciation for the Friends' support.
The evening is prepared entirely by the members of the orchestra. Groups or individuals prepare a range of pieces for the Friends to enjoy in a relaxed setting. They often showcase instruments and musical styles that they don't play in the usual orchestral setting.
The concert is followed by a the chance to chat over a complimentary supper, also prepared by members of the orchestra.

Perhaps as part of a legacy, or the result of local fundraising activites or community actions - these are always welcome, and can be used for a single significant purchase.
An example of a significant piece of funding came from the Foyle Foundation and the Gatwick Airport Community Trust in 2005.They purchased a set of 4 timpani for the orchestra. These are our most commonly used percussion, and to have our own set has been invaluable.
