Daniel Plaza, Ph.D.
Passionate microbiologist with experience in bacterial genetics, genomics, and metagenomics
Hola! I am Daniel, a Chilean microbiologist enthusiastic about bacteria's ability to sense and cope with their environment.
My current postdoctoral work aims to unravel the mobilisation mechanisms of the antibiotic resistance genes present in penguin skin microbiomes.
During my PhD, I centred on seeking and characterising novel regulators for antibiotic biosynthesis in a non-canonical bacterial model. Previously, I worked on antimicrobial peptides and biosynthesis of nanoparticles by using Antarctic bacteria.
My current main interests lie in phage-host interactions and how bacteria exchange genes, crucial for addressing the antimicrobial resistance crisis.
