Session Description: The Open Resources for Nursing (Open RN) project, backed by a $2.5 million grant from the Department of Education, has pioneered the collaborative development of seven nursing OER textbooks. Drawn from the wisdom of over 65 nursing faculty and registered nurses, these materials align with the Wisconsin Technical College System’s state nursing curriculum and the NCLEX-RN Test Plan. All Open RN materials have CC-BY 4.0 Creative Commons licensing. To maintain high-quality standards and ensure relevance to current industry practices, the Open RN textbooks have been subjected to national peer review by over 300 professionals. These reviews validate that the content is not only grounded in current, evidence-based practices but is also articulated in clear language tailored for pre-licensure nursing students. Building upon this foundation, the Open RN project has incorporated innovative learning strategies into the nursing textbooks, including interactive formative assessments and cutting-edge virtual simulations to promote the development of clinical judgment. In our endeavor to further enhance the virtual simulations, we harnessed the capabilities of Generative AI. By leveraging generative text, image, audio, and video-based AI, our team has been empowered to author and curate content with unmatched efficiency. Each AI-generated piece undergoes thorough review by subject matter experts, ensuring its validity and alignment with the nursing curriculum. The OADN's Virtual Simulation Committee has provided an insightful Product Review about the Open RN Products on its website. In our presentation, we will spotlight Open RN materials and offer insights on how educators can seamlessly integrate these free, state-of-the-art resources into their courses.
