My name is Dominic Slauson, and I am passionate about guiding educators to craft and deliver engaging and effective digital learning experiences. My journey in education began in 2012 when I moved overseas to teach English as a Foreign Language in Hanoi, Vietnam. It was an honor to work with such incredible language learners, and I was proud to integrate traditional classroom instruction with digital learning tools to take instruction beyond the classroom in a hybrid online format.
In 2017, I returned to my hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and joined Chippewa Valley Technical College's (CVTC) Curriculum & Professional Development (CPD) department as Technology Professional Developer. My work focused largely on providing faculty development that focused on online course facilitation and the use of different e-learning platforms. In 2020, I transitioned into the role of Online Faculty Developer, which provided me the opportunity to focus on the college's initiatives in the online learning space while also evaluating and guiding individual faculty in their instruction. It was during my tenure at CVTC that I was also given the chance to join the OpenRN Project as Instructional Technologist, with the goal of creating OER resources and virtual simulations for nursing students.
In 2021, my family relocated to California, where I joined the Distance Learning team at California State University Northridge as an Instructional Technologist & Designer. Shortly thereafter, I transitioned into my current role at the University of California Irvine as an Learning Experience Designer at the Paul Merage School of Business. Additionally, in 2022, I started my own company, Codaptive Labs, which is focused on providing training and resources on the use of generative artificial intelligence in education. I have a deep belief in the importance of this work and the role AI will have in the future of our learners and the education we provide them. To this day, I remain committed to my passion of bringing effective and engaging digital learning experience to students.
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a B.A. in Mass Communication. I earned my M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. I am a Google for Education Certified Trainer, a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer, and an Apple Teacher. I am also a Qualified Administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI).
